Mountain Biking - I Need A Replacement Rim

I've got an old Trek 800 from 1995 that I use just to get around campus at school. The back rim has become severely bent and I need to find a relatively inexpensive replacement. Any suggestions on where to look online? I just need the one rim and that's it.

Head to the local Goodwill or similiar store and look for an old junker that has wheels that are somewhat in true. The LBS might have some old stuff hanging around that you could get relatively cheap as well. Most mail-order sites will sell you rims in pairs only.

It'll cost you more to buy a rim and relace it then to buy a whole new wheel! If you buy just a rim, you'll end up needing new spokes and nipples, plus labor to do it. You're probably looking at $100 for a cheap rim. Why?

If you've got a Trek from '95, chances are it's a 7-speed. You can get a spacer from you LBS and use your cassette on an 8/9 speed hub.

It's a 21 speed, but like I said I just use it for getting around campus. I don't really use it for recreation. It's basically just my all-weather transportation bike. I do try to take good care of it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't see its fair share of rain and snow and mud. I think I originally paid like $275 for the bike when I was in 7th grade, so obviously I'm not going to go out and buy a $150 set of wheels. I can do all the work myself.....all I need is a new rim and that's it. The hub, spokes, tire, and tube are all fine. I'm just having a difficult time finding an online site to get a single rim from (that doesn't cost hundreds), so it looks like I'll just have to go in to my bike shop and see what they've got/can get me. Well, unless you buy a rim with the same exact profile, your spokes will be too short or too long. Plus, they're almost 8 or 9 years old. They're trash! Any respectable bike shop will NOT rebuild them for you. They'll suggest the same thing. But, if the hub is a nice one (doubt it if the bike was $275 complete) they'll rebuild it.

Seriously, unless you want a crap wheel, you're gonna have to shell out $75-$100. for a new rim, splokes, and labor. That is, unless you have all the tools and experience needed to rebuild a wheel.

if you are in the bay area i got a pair of old 36h weinmann 519's. otherwise maybe the LBS will have something.

Thanks a lot for the offer. I'm all the way over in Wisconsin, though. I detached the rim from the spokes and was actually pretty successful in bending it back.
