Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
The Bush administration has nominated former Exxon CEO Lee Raymond to lead an influential study to develop policy solutions to America’s energy crisis.
Do you think any non oil related solutions will be recamended?
Political Sub-forum?
Truth be told, I couldn't care any less about Lee Raymond's study group, Ford's quarterly financial results, gas mileage achieved by plump drivers, talk of raising gas taxes, oil discoveries in the Gulf, rising populations of northern hairy nosed wombats, etc. etc.

But that is the flavor of the commentary that makes this list what it is and why it provides the amount of useful bicycling related info/commentary that it does.

They will probably make a couple "alternative" recommendations to appease the public, but these will undoubtedly be ignored by the administration.
BTW, I think this is an appropriate topic for this forum. Carfree...duh.... Those who have no interest in carfree politics are welcome to ignore the relatively few threads that deal with it. Look at the index, ILTB. There are many threads that convey "useful bicycling related info/commentary." Of course you never post on those threads--only on the political threads, and then only to complain. What a bitter hypocrite.

Market forces! Unfortunately the oil market & many others are subsidized, yes, by our tax dollars. Also "market forces" never get the bosses to do the right thing. "Market forces" means things like dumping your toxic waste in the water supply, not treating it, & slashing the social safety net.
Capitalists in general have had to be regulated to display even a modicum of human decency, although even much of that has been eroded by decades of right-wing resurgence, largely fostered by their growing media monopoly & the capitulation of the Democratic party.
But we forget. You might try reading Howard Zinn's PEOPLE'S HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES.

Guess what Jack - - -. You think political and ideological ranting is an appropriate topic. I don't. So go soak your head, or better yet, announce once again how you that you activated your ignore button so you don't see any posts that don't meet your standards for submission.
Again, its unrelenting political/ideological posts like yours that make this discussion list what it is, and provides the amount of value that it does to car free cyclists (or anybody else).

Thank you! But in all modesty, I really think it's more of a group effort.
I'm surprised that there's any argument on this issue, since even most of the conservative theorists and economists agree that environmental regulations are more effective than market forces, and one area where government intervention is needed.
