I went out day before yesterday(rained yesterday)with intentions of a long ride.I thought 50 miles would be nice. The Trek FX 7300 is kind of heavy and stiff. The wind was blowing 10 gusting to 15 but everything was going pretty good.I was at about 22 miles when the anchor came out.I kept looking at my back wheel to see if it was flat or going flat, nothing.Anyhow after 37 miles with an average of 14.4, and a time of 2:33:37 I thought I did fairly well.6 months ago I couldn't open a jar of peanut butter(really) with this Rhrumatoid arthritis and now I'm out riding.I started riding 3 months ago had 3 bikes and got a forth ordered. Some people shake there heads that know me,but I'm doing it. The best part is that they don't do anything.I guess it's one of those things that God helps those who help themselves.I'm really looking forward to getting the new bike and hopefully it will be a little easier on me.Man is that aluminum stiff, but I'm glad I got it.Anyhow, everybody have a good day and thanks for all the help over the past few months,George:D

What a wonderful, inspiring story!

You are the person for whom I got the 50+ forum started.

Congratulations, and keep up the GREAT work.

You made my very snowy and windy day!

I've had people telling me how 14 mph isn't a high average but I'm faster than most people around here and I have to ride pretty good to average that.

So far this year I have put in over 6,000 miles and my highest average is 18 mph on a pretty flat ride.

You're doing really good so don't feel down because you had a bad day or a good day that someone else convinced you was a bad day.

George, you 'da man! Yes, you are doing it, and you have my admiration and respect for it! Many in your situation would have given up, but not you. Way to go.

thanks George...reading your OP conviced me that we are part of a growing sub-culture, and that outsiders just don't understand. Almost like being in a cult.

I've been cycling for almost 50 years, became serious about 5 years ago when I began to use my bike to control my glucose levels. I'm now med-free, have never been this fit, commute 50km/day to the office, and ride every weekend. This year I'm on track for 14,000km.

You're right about the Trek...my 7.5fx has that "dead" feel, my wife replaced her 7300, and I'm riding my vintage Gitane.

Have a great weekend.

Well done- and if you don't get a suspension post on that ally frame- you will be.

Don't Like suspension seat posts but on the Tandem it is a requirement. Did not notice what a difference they make to BODY comfort, and not just the butt, till mine went duff on me. Replaced it with a Top quality unit and luckily it is the same size as the Bianchi MTB. So If I'm feeling fragile and I have to use the MTB- The post gets changed and it helps.

That is a good story. This month I haven't ridden much because of serious work commitments and I spent the last week just recuperating by sleeping till 6:00.
Starting Monday I've got to get back out there. Stories like yours give me that proper frame of reference I've been missing.

Way to go George, you've come a long way in a short time. As someone said in a post above, you are an inspiration for all of us. Is Mrs, George still riding?

Sounds great and be proud of your accomplishment. Overcoming obstacles and pushing yourself can be a joy whether its your first 10mi ride or your first 200mi ride.

Yes Louis, she is still riding, but she got RA worse than I do.Over the years they have come out with a lot of different drugs and she has been on most of them.Right now she gets an infusion of Remicade about every 6 weeks.I believe it it weren't for that she would have a hard time walking let alone riding. She's happy with 10 or 12 miles a day.I stay with her for the first 10 or so then take off on my own. Thanks for asking, take care, George
