I just rode through the park on my first commute in a little while and it looks like they are going to tear JFK up from before the De Young to the intersection at 25th Ave. This is totally going to screw up my commute that I already have way too many lame excuses for not doing. Does anyone know the timeline / extent of the construction or have a suggestion for an alternate route. I go from 33rd and Fulton to Market and 1st street.

You could just take cabrillo to arguello, take arguello into the park and turn left at the three-way stop at the top of that little hill. stay in the bike lane (which runs against traffic) and eventually that street dumps you out at JFK at the foot of the park.

On my way home I saw the sign that was put up announcing the construction project and it looks like it is scheduled to go through the end of November. looks like its Jackhammers and diesel smoke for at least a month.
I feel your pain. I have the exact same dilemma.

Dalton:
Where do you commute from/ to? Are you changing your route or just getting on the muni (25 min. late this morning!) like my lazy self??
Sorry for not replying sooner, crazy week.
I ride from 33rd Ave. and the park on the Fulton side to 5th Street and Townsend. Maybe 6 miles each way.
I have been taking the car, (even lazier than you). This is more of a daylight savings time thing than the shredded up JFK. Its just too crazy to take that road home in the dark.
I may just hold out biking until the road is resurfaced. If I did bike I would take the bus over the hill or at any rate to circumnavigate the park.

yeah i think im out until the road is back up. I bet you the day the road is finished is when the one month of torrential downpours will start.
Yes, exactly. My eye will be glued to the weather reports. Rain is a necessary evil I suppose.

I rode on JFK yesterday after work to go get some brew with a friend at Waizeema (sp). I have to say that the new asphalt is nice and smooth. Now they just need to get all the cones, trucks/machines, and congestion out of there and it will be great.
