Well, my snowblower has two wheels and I go around and around, and it is not self-propelled - does that count?

Today: Periods of snow showers, mainly before noon. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 36. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 23 to 26 mph decreasing to between 15 and 18 mph. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

There I am wondering when the winter weather will hit us and you have hogged the whole lot. Theres no need to be greedy so if you can spare some- Send some our way. I think that is being a bit mean of me as I think we will have some snow this year- so Send it to DG instead.

65 degrees this morning at sunrise. No wind. No clouds. Perfect weather for a before work ride. The only decision was whether to wear a jersey with sleeves or sleeveless.

I love winter.

Move!

I'm NOT complaining. I love the change in weather. Yesterday it was 70F, and I had a 25 mile wonderful ride. Forecast for this weekend is in the 60's. The snow will be all gone. I will be doing more wonderful rides.

I wouldn't think of moving. Weather changes make life interesting and fun.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 68. South southwest wind around 7 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 34.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.

I'm jealous...my folks live in Tequesta and everytime I talk to my Dad he brags about the weather...especially after he checks the weather channel and sees what we are enduring in Indiana! Frankp

I was watching the weather channel at breakfast this morning and wondered how ol' DnvrFox was doing and pondering his fickle weather. :) My weather is crappy and changeable, but not like that!

I haven't been in a snow storm that amounted to much since I left CO.
Sure looks beautiful, although it brings back the memories of digging the vehicle out.

Here (SoCal) it's warm for at least the next 10 days according to the forcast.
Sad thing about here is the fire that's burning. Four fire fighter have been killed.
They now are saying it's an arson fire.

Here's a link to a local paper if you want to read about it.

How long do the winds last and are you able to even ride during that time?

Makeitso

The funny thing is, I'm only about 20 miles from there and it's as calm as can be here.
The place the fire is at is a pass where the wind seems to always blow to one degree or another.
I think if it were blowing that hard here I would not ride.

I used to fight brush fires in CA many moons ago.

One day we learned that 13 FF's from our National Forest had been killed in a fire. That kind of news is pretty devastating.

I hope the arsonist (or whoever started that fires) literally burns in you know where.

It was nice here today, mid 50'sF and sunny. I cut my grass for, hopefully, the last time this year.

I like snow but prefer to wait 'til Jan/Feb.

But when it does come, I shovel my driveway with an old fashioned snow shovel. I get odd looks from the neighbors as most of them are half my age and have snow blowers or plows.

Being a cheap-ass, gets me a great upper body workout. :p

Q. "Excuse me Mr. Weird Neighbor, it would be easier if you used a snow blower. Why do you shovel by hand year after year?"

A. "Because I can." :D

Cool, while I don't miss shoveling, bundling up the kids or cleaning my car and driving in slush, I do miss being out in a heavy snowstorm. When I was in Chicago and running I use to love going out at night when it was snowing about 1+"/hr. It was always beautiful and so very still and quiet (unless the wind was howling) these were some of my most enjoyable runs. Biking in it however is something I think I would avoid. Its been great down here this week mid 70s to low 80s with 40% RH. Come on down.

I guess with a wife who can now barely walk and is in constant pain from her bad knee (due to be replaced in January), it would be a little stupid of me to expose myself to any more dangers and the potential for BOTH of us to be laid up at the same time.

So, I bicycle with extreme caution, which would not include exposing myself to ice/snow where I could skid or fall. I will have my 67th birthday real soon, and I am beginning to feel it just a bit.

But, you go ahead and have all the fun you might like. 15 years ago, and in different circumstances, I would have been joining you.

Stop being a responsible adult will ya ?!

Just kidding, I understand. I'm a little kid, I'm only 55. :D

I hope your wife feels better as soon as possible.

Unless the snow is more than two feet deep, you can usually ride the first day it snows. The snow is soft enough that even with 23mm tires and a fixed gear, I can usually get in to work.

The second and third days, though, can be treacherous. In a damp climate like the coast of BC, the snow turns to lumps of ice as it gets packed down. When I was younger, I'd ride in to work anyway, just because I hated to concede "defeat" and drive in. But after nearly 30 years of riding to work, I'll risk the first day of snow but concede the next couple of days until the snow clears.

I understand that in drier climates, it's not difficult to ride a bike on packed snow. Probably would need the flotation of fat tires, but you're not sliding all over the place and trying to keep the front wheel from getting deflected by icy irregularities in the road like you need to do in Vancouver.

Me too.

Here in Iowa, we get an average of 29 inches of snow a year. Most snowfalls are under 3 inches. Still you see people cranking up the snowblower... I've even see folks running their snowblowers when I've cleared the driveway with a broom.

What gives? Are people that lazy?
