Not one but two drivers went ape$#!^ on me today for taking the lane. One case, it is impossible to make it from one green light to another without driving at 40+mph (crossing Midtown) and there's really nowhere to go so one kinda has to take the lane. Dude almost runs me over from behind and lays on the horn like there's no tomorrow. The other, on Riverside Drive, approaching, that's right, a red light again, with multiple double-parkers occupying the right lane (this is going north just short of 120th St so uphill to boot) I'm pedaling up to the light, maybe 50m away and another lunatic lays on the horn and does all sorts of stupid stuff to try to get around me. The driver also screamed at me something along the lines of "I'm driving a car can't you see"?

Might makes right or is it size makes right?
People need to figure out what the term right of way means.

You'd think they never seen cyclists in traffic before. This being in NYC, you're surrounded by them. A couple days ago, a van w/ NJ plates buzzed past me to get in the bus lane so he could get ahead of traffic before cutting off some other car in the lane to his left.

FYI - the bus lane is restricted to buses and bikes and traffic making right turns during rush hour so no cars are supposed to be in it if they're not making a right turn.

I drafted a lawn service truck for a mile or so today... totally awesome because when he got stuck at the next light, I just came around and went on my way with no cars at the intersection !!

(The lights on this road are all timed.. =) !! )

Catch up at the light... pass em.

LOL that's what I did to the first guy and stuck my tongue out at him. :D The second guy, I passed him at the light as I made a right turn onto 120th yelling stuff about his microscopic manhood or something to that effect. ;)

Thats when I take the middle of the lane

That's what I was doing and why the two knuckle-draggers were so PO'd.

Oh and I forgot, both had NJ plates. Coincidence? I think not, as the one guy who I didn't mention but buzzed me on my morning route on the way out, also had, that's right, NJ plates!

NJ plates you say? That explains it. They have no clue that bikes are traffic so they go nuts when they see them.

Yeah what gets me is that they come into *my* city and tell me what to do. Fughedaboudit!

And then there were three! One more for the day on the windy uphill bit of Riverside Drive if you go what I call the "back way" up. You kinda have to know where it is. Anyhow I recall actual words, "Get the f*** out of the way you f***in' d***!" Geez and I was trying to get out of the way, in fact because they guy was riding my butt like he wanted me to sit on his hood. For those who don't know, it's another one of those places where there's nowhere to go without a gap in the parked cars.
