Touring - New Bike!!!

Wow.. I'm very excited!!! Just won a Trek 520 on Ebay a couple minutes ago! Here's a picture. Paid $290 for it. Had built up a Schwinn Mesa GSD as a touring/commuting bike and have been hating it. Really looking forward to riding this!

You getting a 520? Something else? I've heard some good things about the 520. I'd been looking at the Fuji and the REI one, but am very happy to pick this one up.

I'm getting the Novara Randonee,but I was watching the bidding going on ebay for the 520.Everything I've read they are both good bikes,and there are a few more that I would have liked,but I'm happy with my choice.

Does it really have the crow foot spokes pattern?

I like that bike. I've heard some really good things about it, but they were going for way too much on EBay. I was in REI this weekend but didn't see that bike in their catalog. Do they still make it?

I can tell by the green background you got it from Fly Bike Shop (I think that's the name?) from Colorado? I bought an old Specialized Rockhopper for my son from them. It was a beautiful bike and a great deal. It was basically immaculate, except for some lousy cantilever brakes. I bought some replacements on Ebay for under $20. Now my son has a really nice hardtail, hardforked mountain bike for riding around town. Just what he wanted.

Well, I thought so too. Currently they won't return my phone calls or emails after sending me a 7 speed Trek 830 that they advertised as 8 speed. The steerer wedge was removed from the quill and was stuck in the steerer tube. Brake parts were missing

This was two weeks ago. I called the guy (Lee) he said box it up and he'd have DHL pick it up and refund the money. Now he won't answer calls or email. Most are lucky with that guy, but if you check his ratings there are a few horror stories in there. My luck to be one of them.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Hope I don't have similar experiences with them. I have read some bad reviews from them, but sometimes you have to roll the dice.

They look almost like the shifters that were on my 2002 Giant OCR3 road bike, Sora 8-speed. The little thing sticking out was part of the shifter, which you pushed with your thumb -- the equivalent to the sort of paddle-shaped lever that's built into the shift lever on the higher-level 9-speeds and such (which you push with your middle or index finger.)

Shimano brifters (shifters and brake all in one) Small inside lever is for shifting. Very easy to use and fairly durable. Nice bike and nice price. :D

Thanks. I've never seen this version of shifter before. I've always seen the one with the little black paddle under the front lever. I have Shimano 105's on my Trek Pilot 5.0 and really like them. Most touring bikes I've seen have bar end shifters, so I was a little puzzled to see these on what is suppose to be a true touring bike.

Those are SORA brifters, near the low grade of Shimano line but very functional and a lot of folks like the simplicity.

Did anybody notice the flickstand? The gizmo on the downtube that wraps around the "T" in Trek.
