Just curious to hear how folks did this year. Did you have any goals for yourself?
I would estimate that we did ~1000 miles on the tandem this year (although all the mileage was in the first 1/2 of the year).

1593.06 miles plus February mileage which wasn't much. I put nearly that many miles on my Cyclocross bike in June all by itself.
Our goal was to get faster, didn't really have a mileage goal in mind.

More than most, but not nearly as much as would have liked.
I don't have a cycle-computer on my tandem so I have to guess: 50 miles a week times 35 good-weather weeks = 1750 miles +/-
2005 was 3,000miles almost exactly. Passed 3,000miles in 2006 several weeks ago. My goal for 2006 was an even 4k, just because it was the next even, round number. Should easily pass 3,500 for 2006, but may not make it to 4k by December 31.
I call it good all around, since more than last year is all it takes to make this a better year. :)

We have done about 4K on the double and 1K on the triple. We ride year around and very likely will break 5K on the double.
Only 240 miles on the tandem. Add in the 520 that we did with the trail-a-bike before we got the tandem and that makes 760, all with an 8 yr. old stoker.
over 1100 miles on the tandem, which is probably more than my wife has ridden the rest of her life. for me about 8000 or so, i really don't keep track of the total. most weeks are over 200.
We bought our tandem in Sep 2005 and rode about 500 miles before the weather changed in late Oct. We started riding again in March 2006 until now -- about 1900 miles. Includes about 500 on RAGBRAI.
BTW - we're in ND so snow and ice limits riding bewteen Nov - Mar. It can be done though, we just choose not to.

You are about a year ahead of everyone else...
I don't keep track of miles ridden. I'd say maybe 2000 on the tandem?! Many more on my single.
Estmated 3000 tandem 3000 single - but who's counting
So far for 2006 (Oct. 27):
3,553 on tandem
Plus Rudy rode 1,601 on his single.
Guess that's OK for a couple of 70+ year-old cancer survivors; we don't go as far/fast as we used to.
Back in 1986 we rode 13,113 miles . . . oh to be young and in our 50s again (not really, we love retirement!).
Our goal: keep riding!
Pedal on TWOgether!
Rudy and Kay/zonatandem
2006 tandem miles...5637.7...so far.
Total miles since March 2001 purchase...25,004...and counting:D
We'll keep riding this year as long as the roads are dry.

Good catch. I hate it when work gets in the way of posting!
2500 on the tandem and probably only 500-750 on the single. I usually did about 3000-3500/year when I only rode the single so the mileage total is pretty close. The only difference is the tandem is much more fun.
Last year we did just over 3800km on the tandem. This year we're at around 4200km, which is more than I've got on my track bike but less than I've got on the fixed gear rain/commuting bike.
Kilometers always sounds better for bike stuff.

We've put 2,500 on our triplet so far this year. Will easily add another 500 or so by the end of December. Not bad for our first calender year of cycling. Special kudos to my stokers!!!!
We did 1600 miles so far this year. Our goal was to do the STP in one day and we did it.
I also ran about 1000 (not the man I used to be...)
I'll bet your knees aren't what they used to be either.
not so much the knees, it's the heart.
I've done about 1500 on the tandem with a number of different stokers, around 200 of which was with adult stokers, the remaining 1300 with the kids on the back. I rode another 2000 on the Ritchey single road bike and a further 500 on the Ritchey all-rounder style rig early in the season and on dirt.
Yep. The tandem is the most fun of the bunch, regardless of who stokes.
Somewhere around 750 miles I'd guess, though not always with the same riders. We only got it in late Spring, and sometimes it's a lot to get all four of us together to ride.
About 2400 with another 5-600 planned. Got the Trek 1000 in March. Probably another 500 on singles.
About 250 miles on a single with a trailer bike and a conventional trailer (we call this set-up the Train). The kids took turns on the trailer bike.
About 200 miles so far on the tandem (Trek T900) with a conventional trailer (or with DD peddling her own bike with training wheels--really limits our range). DS can peddle with the seat (straight post) ALL the way down, no room for a seat-post trailer bike hitch. DD is just enough smaller that she isn't stoking on the tandem yet. The T900 has an auxiliary port for attaching a Trek trailer bike without the seat post hitch, so that'll be the next purchase. I have also installed a computer now, so we'll have a better idea of our mileage from now on.
Catherine, riding with twin 5-yo stokers (YES, we want a TRIPLE!!!)
Catherine:
Co-Motion does a nice 'family triple' called the Periscope Trident + Bike Friday also does a less pricey triple.
Twins on a triple? Go!
Wow that is some serious mileage you guys are stacking up. About 1/10 of my mileage is on the tandem. With small kids, always tough for both of us to get away. Our son now 4 won't ride in the trailer anymore, and is still a bit small for the tag-a-long, so until he starts schools we'll be limited to a couple organized rides a month when we get a sitter. For shorter rides, it's just easier if everyone is on a single. However, we kept our first tandem (now has a child stoker kit our daughter uses) in hopes that eventually the kids be big enough we can take rides on the two tandems - should be fun. Hopefully we'll break 1,000 next year.
John
We haven't ridden singles for years, so all of our miles are on the tandem.

Thanks. I need to save up a couple more years, though. Even my less-than-$1000 T900 was a stretch.
I saw a Bike Friday last year, a family in Santa Fe had sold their second car to buy it. <g> Dad was riding it with 2 kids, Mom was on a single with a trailer for the youngest. At first I really liked it, but the smaller wheels are a hitch. Then I started seeing a triple many days right in my own town, right on my own STREET. I live 2 blocks from a grade school, and this guy was dropping his kids off at school every morning, then riding the triple to work. (Wonder how many miles HE rides a year!) He's my inspriation. He suggested the tandem/trailer bike as a stop-gap, that was how he started.
Looks like there is going to be a tandem rally in Taos, NM, next May (it's on the Tandem Cycle Works of Colorado site). We're already planning on going, partly just to see all the possible bikes to put on the wish list.
Catherine
We'll end up with between 600-700 miles. Some great rides, just not enough of them. Darn this having to work for a living!
like, 100 (Columbia Twosome from 60's- that's why. I'm in the process of building a better one).
My wife and I only rode the tandem about 750 miles this year. We both also ride singles, hers about 2500 and mine about 7500. We did ride our tandem today, though, as a Thanksgiving togetherness thing. :)
1,055 on the tandem. But Gina got a new Pilot 5.2 in April. She's done 1900 on that since then. She's got about 3,000 for the year on the tnadem, Pilot and a couple of others. I don't care what she rides, just as long as she rides!:D
9400 Miles for us so far this year. We hoped to hit 10K, but it doesn't look like our schedule is going to cooperate for the next couple of weeks.

Hmmm, dunno. Probably about 500. That's the problem with using a single Garmin 301 for 4 bikes:).
Total for all 4 bikes about 4000 ytd.

Sounds like you need to start using SportsTracks. It will help you keep info separate.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a whirl and start in 2007.
Hi rmac - I played with SportsTracks last night and it seems to be just what I need. Thanks again

It's a great program. I use my Garmin on two bikes and our tandem. It's really easy keeping the info separate with SportsTracks. I hope he continues development of the program.
My first in my life tandem was Schwinn Twins Sport what I bought in Jan 2005.
After some maintenance we rode it with my wife appr may be 6 times and may be 70 miles.
It's nice bike, but heavy and not good for the transportation at all.
At the end of the summer I bought on craiglist more modern bike -- Univega Sport tandem -- probably 89, in very good condition, for $175
And this one we used only 3 times -- appr 30 miles.
It's huge difference between old Schwinn and not high end and still not new Univega.
I even can transport it using hitch rack on my Mazda Protege 5 vagon -- no cops have seen me yet, though.
Since May 2006: Tandem 1040 miles and road bikes 1227 miles.
About 300 miles, which was about what I figured we would have. In that same period I have about 1800 miles on my single bikes.
We put 6732 miles on our tandem in 2006. That was our best year to date. 26,098 miles since we purchased it in March of 2001.
This was our first year with our tandem. I just checked bikejournal.com and we did 1,536 miles
on the tandem. Rides tooks us across five states and included the NWTR in OR.
I managed to add 500 miles on the single bike, and met an additional 500 miles as a bike commute goal.
2006 was a good year.
For anyone looking to see how they measure up against other teams, here's a link to an unscientific survey I conducted back in 2004 from which you can probably draw some comparative data on weight, age, miles ridden each year, etc:
http://www.opinionpower.com/results.cgi?id=149012009
1100 km on the Trek T100 (2000?,
2500 km on 2005 Shwinn Fastaback Comp my new road bike,
600 km on a 1983 Olmo Columbus tubing road bike I've had since it was new, had served its time, and split in half for no apparent reason. Metal fatigue/corrosion after maybe 25,000 km of Buenos Aires roads.
