This question was not answered in the movie, "Stand By Me"...OK, so Mickie IS a mouse, Donald IS a duck, Pluto IS a dog...WTF is Goofy??

...and we never did determine what Gonzo on the Muppet show is.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Would a fly without wings be called a walk?

Goofy is a dog.

I'd be perfectly willing to accept that answer if it weren't for one fly in the ointment, namely Pluto. Pluto is clearly a dog. However, unlike Goofy, Pluto doesn't wear clothes, hats, or anything else but a collar. He also doesn't speak, just barks and whines. He also walks on all fours. Contrast all this stuff to Goofy, who, as your illustration shows, also participates in fishing, etc., and even drives a car from time to time.

So what gives? How come one dog acts so human, and the other dog just acts like a dog? Answer: one of them's not a dog.

Personally, I subscribe to the Robin Williams theory that Goofy is every man in the world while having an orgasm.

If someone owns a piece of land, do they own it all the way to the center of the earth?

Why did Sally sell seashells on the seashore when you can just pick them up anyway?

Why are both of Spongebob's parents round like sea sponges while he is square like a kitchen sponge?

If a doctor suddenly died while doing surgery, would the other doctors work on the doctor or the patient?

Mickey, Minnie et. al wear clothes, display human behavior, yet you do not dispute that they are mice.

According to Blackstone, who pretty much wrote all the original English law in this area and whose ideas were then transferred to the colonies, yes. The concept is known as the "Blackstonian wedge." Incidentally, the ownership would also extend skyward from the ground. (There was no air travel in Blackstone's time, so he never really saw the problems that could arise from this.)

True, but there's no "other" mouse that doesn't do these things. As I said before, in defining Goofy, one must deal with the Pluto conundrum. No such problems arise with Mickey and Minnie.

If someone owns a piece of land, do they own it all the way to the center of the earth?I hate to take a humorous thread and get serious but when you own land there's a good chance that someone else owns the mineral rights under that land. They can dig, drill or otherwise get to the resources as long as they don't disturb the surface land owned by you.

Pluto is Mickey's pet. It would be just wrong to have a pet that talks and wears clothes. :D

The rights would either be stipulated by the contract, or by the local law. The customary law varies from state-state.

If you go back in the history of these characters, the original ones did not wear clothes and were drawn more realistically. Mickey actually looked more like a big rat than a cute mouse. Then bowing to upset puritans who complained about dancing naked animals being shown to the kids, the later characters were drawn with human clothing. The later Mikey and Minnie had clothes as did the later dogs, like Goofy.

As someone else stated it was summised in Muppets from Space that Gonzo is an alien. Prior to that it is believed (by himself) that he was a blue weirdo.
