If you own a dog- put identification on it!!! I am always coming across dogs that have gotten loose somehow. They almost always have collars on but no identification. An ID tag costs less than $5. As a dog lover whenever I come across a loose dog I try to catch it so it can be returned to its owner. If the dog has no ID it can be impossible to bring the dog home. I then have the choice of setting it loose hoping it finds its way home without getting hit by a car or calling animal services to come pick it up. On my ride today I came across two separate dogs running loose on busy streets with no ID. All I could do was chase them away from the road so they wouldn't get smashed. A few bucks for a tag is much less than the vet bills for a dog hit by a car or what animal control charges to give you your dog back. A rabies tag is not identification, so don't think that is enuf to have on your pet.

I've got ID tags, ID tags to the rescue group I got them from (who can ID them and know who to get them to), and microchips in my two babies.

I got the tags, even the implantated chips, but not sure who on earth in the right frame of mind would want my two chihuahuas:p

well we never put iD on our dogs. we just let them run thru to woods. as a little kid i was always afraid they would get lost and nobody would find them.
there was this one time when i was 6 we had a colar on dixi (my moms dog) and she came back with bear $hit up and under here colar and i had to clean here off. dogs will roll in bear dudu to keep the tick and outer bugs off.
i then understud why my dad didnt put iD colars on our dogs.

OK, just who is in charge here...the one on the leash or the one with the little plastic bag full of dog poop?

Is this a joke?
We just got our first dog this past summer after lots of begging from the kids. (we're a little uptight:D ) We put a tag on him first thing. It was one of those that was shaped like a bone. Well, somehow the bone shaped ID tag fell off and I found it out on the patio.
The ring that held it to his collar was broken. So i went and got a new ring from a keyring that was lying around. Turns out the keyring ring was much stiffer. Anyway, I went outside one day to see Fynn (our dog) with his head strangely laying on the adirondack chair. Well, the dog shaped ID tag fell through the slits in the chair and wedged sideways.
The dog was stuck with his head into the chair. Luckily i found him before things got ugly. Apparently, that was what happened the first time as well, when it fell off. So don't use to heavy of a ring and forget the dog bone shaped tags.
Fynn is off to the vet on Monday to lose his balls and also to get a chip implanted. :)

We used to just brand our last name and telephone number on the dog's side. Poor Skippy barely made it through three moves.
