He lays on his horn and at the last second swerves out of the way. I knew he was trying to scare me and get me to ride off into the ditch on the side of the road, but I didn't budge. The idiot almost wound up hitting a car head on :lol:

Why were you riding against traffic? If you were no wonder the driver almost hit you head on. Not saying it serves you right but I think if you were riding WITH traffic it would not be as much of a problem.

Why are you riding against traffic? Riding against traffic means that if there is any incident where you are hit, your speed and their speed combine at the moment of impact. Riding against traffic means that you are NOT where motorists would normally look for traffic. Riding against traffic means that you do not see the traffic signs, and turns have to made in a strange manner.

Why are you riding against traffic? Could it be that the SUV driver was suddenly surprised to see you after they came around the corner... Because you were in a place you should NOT have been?

I drive an SUV and would likely honk at a cyclist riding the wrong way at me in the road. I wouldn't speed up, would merge early to avoid them, would pass with good distance, but still honk.

I don't believe this actually happened.

But hypothetically, if it did and I were the motor vehicle driver, I would probably stop to the right in the lane, forcing the cyclist to the left or off the road.

I admit it. It was me. I hang out around a corner just waiting for someone to be riding against traffic and then I come screaming right at them in my SUV. I'm obviously dirty and smelly because sometimes I have to wait a really long time for some dolt to be riding against traffic thus I never take a shower. You never know when opportunities will arise. :D

Your only error was that you forgot the earphones. As long as you have good tunes, drivers can not run you down.

No you got it all wrong. If you wear a helmet with your headphones you won't care if you get run down because you become indestructible and you won't miss the Big Beat. But you have to use an iPod, no cheap imitations; no Walkman or Discman allowed either. And remember, only helmets with an LBS provenance come equipped with the magic invincibility shield.
