Training & Nutrition - Advice for newbie on a roller

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just got a new Cyclops roller to use over the winter to improve my balance and augment my training. Any tips on how not to kill myself during the learning curve?
thanks!

Try using them in a doorway.
If no doorways, then having some other object to hold onto. My favorite is a stationary exercise bike ;)
Stradle the bike first, then back it onto the rollers.
Don't clip in.
Don't worry about falling off the rollers and crashing through your living room wall. The bike stops pretty fast once you hit the carpet. It is only slightly more painful than the standard first day on clipless pedals fall at the red light.

I never had the problems with clipless, but I've tipped over a couple times on my rollers since I got them last November. A narrow hallway is my place of preference when at home. I don't really need it anymore, but it's nice to have someplace to put my sweaty hands when I just wanna take a break without unclipping.
Really no reason to not get on the rollers nearby something you can put your hand on to balance you if you want it.
