It never fails. The first really nice weekend of the season and I develop a head cold from the drastic weather change. This weekend was wonderful... mid-60s and yet I felt like utter crap and didn't go riding. Anyone else have this happen to them too? Any tips on how to avoid it? Now the rain is going to start back up. It'll get nice again eventually but I feel like I missed my window of opportunity for a beautiful first spring ride.

this happens to me, but recently not too much, the first drastic weather flucuation usually does it for me, but that happens in oct. and feb. and sometimes it doesn't, all depends on how well i've been excercising and eating... shrug.

I just had a rotten cold too. I don't get more than one a year, and usually it's either at this time of year or around Xmas. I often seem to get sick between xmas and new year's.

The best way to avoid it is to wash your hands a lot, but in my case avoiding it was nearly impossible since my spouse had it. It was inevitable I'd get it. Colds are a fact of life at this time of year.

It's the same for me. Weather was nice, I was too busy and also, my bike needed a bottom bracket repair. Then I got sick and now the weather is crappy again. So I'm like waaaah! Going crazy. But cheer up, the weather will moderate soon and people won't be indoors spreading germs all over the place and we'll all be riding every day!

I got bronchitis 2 weeks ago and am finally today finishing up a weeks worth of antibiotics. Of course the weather is back in the 30's again now that I'm breathing again.

If the weather drops below 40 degrees and your head and ears are not cover, your asking for a serious headcold. That's what happened to me two weeks ago. The temperature dropped blow 35 degress and I didn't put on my earmuffs and only had my head covered. I was sick for almost 10 days.

The problem with the weather in the northeast is the temperature can drop 25 degrees in a span of 12 hours. I noticed people the other day walking around with only a long sleave shirt in New York City once the temperature hit 45 degrees. A week later, I notice all these people on the train sneezing and caughing their head off spreading all the germs.

If I have only a head cold (i.e., clogged sinuses but no achiness) and the weather is nice I just go out on my bike and ride. I usually find I feel much better for having gone out and gotten some fresh air. Just remember not to overdo it. YMMV.

I suppose I could have taken a Sudafed (the blue pill works wonders |8^) but I dislike taking medicine unless I really really have to. I just had a hard time breathing through my nose and my throat was already raw and scratchy. That reminds me... I asked my wife earlier, "does my voice sound hoarse? Or cow? Goat?" After about a dozen animals, she responded with, "no... you just sound like an a$$."

I think most people would have responded to you in this manner.
:D
Sorry, I just had to.

Oh... I totally agree I was asking for it... first from my wife and secondly by posting about it here. :D

3/16 First ride outside all year.
3/17 Felt tired during ride on trainer in the basement.
3/18 Nose no longer functional.
3/19 Getting in trouble for having the TV to loud.
3/20 Didn't need earplugs when I went out in the mill.
3/21 Realized what it would feel like if my head were a pressure cooker.
3/22 Thought I was hearing voices. Head starting to clear.
3/23 Sound coming in and out. Like a bad radio station.
3/24 Road on the trainer and sealed the concrete floor with snot.
3/25 Getting back into the swing of things.

Never happens to me.

That's just it, ride works better than Sudafed for me. I go out on a ride and I drip like a faucet, clears me right out. 'Course, as soon as I end my ride and go back inside, I clog right back up. Feel better 'tho.

Yeh! I had a stinking sniffily head cold over the last weekend period.

Put it down to the old folks home where I help out was rife with a cold virus the previous week, they all seemed to have it.

Healthy lifestyle (cycling) usually wards these virus off, but not on this occasion....
