I have recently installed some NOS vintage Dia-Compe 300G brakes on a Cannondale Criterium frame with Ambrosio 700c wheels. I get a loud squeal from the front brake each time I apply brake pressure. I can feel the squeal resonating throught the frame. Is there a quick fix?

A couple of possible reasons for the squealing:
1. Dirty rims (less likely)
2. Pads not toed-in (more likely) properly. See: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=22 and scroll down to the middle of the page.

This could indicate that there's play in the calipers, too. That Park site also has great instructions on adjusting the caliper to remove play that can cause vibration. Toe-in is still very important though.
There may not be a *quick* fix, but there are lots of measures you can take, and it will eventually get fixed. It's just that this is a complex problem and you have to address the issues one at a time until you finally get it resolved. And then, the silence is golden. :)

Try using a fingernail emery board to dress up the surface of the brake pads. About half of the time that'll fix it.

80% of brake squeal I fix are by toeing in the shoes, but of course there are many others sources of this irritating sound, it's just that toeing in seems to solve must of my issues.

I know someone who addressed squealing brakes by spraying PAM on her rims. And she studied physics in college X-(
