Speaking of new remedys for greasin' chains and stuff...
I heard you can like bake or boil your chain or something. I read it in a magazine once. Funny though, i can't say i've seen it on bikeguide yet...maybe i'll put a thread up aha.
FitRider 921

Baking your chain wouldn't really do anything. Boiling would because it's getting rid of all of the crap on your chain. It wouldn't be very nice to touch though... you could actually melt it.

by boiling it? i hope your kidding.

Your just being silly.
Boiling a chain would get it nowhere near hot enough to melt.

Not if you did it with some unknown liquid at extreme temperatures. Or just some acid. It is possible.

Ya, English class.
Also Gunz, you aren't going to melt a chain through heat with any liquid, only chemically.
it may not melt but it would expand

A chemical is a liquid, hence why they are not solids. So my theory is still possible.

No liquid like water.
Acid is a chemical, and will eat the chain, not consume it through heat.
FitRider 921

Oh well. It can still be melted.

I think the melting point (of steel) is around 2500 degrees F (1370 C)...i know MY oven/stove doesn't get that hot!
