since Bettini's team Quickstep is sponsored by Time, he should be using the Time pedal, if i'm not corrected, but i use the Time RXS Carbon and i notice Bettini had different cleats for the World Championship, what pedals was he using?

Dura-ace. Shimano has sweet-ass pedals. Even a bling squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while.

that's what i thought in the first place, as those cleats are Shimano SPD-Sl's

Sponsorship is only for bikes.

yes the "fixed" red model. The yellow cleats have 5 degrees of float.

Shoes, pedals, and saddles usually are up to the rider even though a specific company may sponsor the team.
You can see the Dura Ace pedal in this shot.

Time supply frames (or I think they call them "modules") only.
Pedal choice is up to each rider.

I've talked to people who have ridden the new ones and they are suposed to be even better.

Do the new ones require new cleats or do they use the same?

I'm 99% sure it is the same. My brother-in-law was riding them this summer and to tell you the truth I don't remember. I don't think he had changed his cleat. When I saw them at Interbike it was just the pedal. They are basically the same but that little plastic insert piece is metal instead of plastic. Also right where that insert piece is the pedal curves out a little bit so that it is a little wider there. What I heard is that your foot will not pronate (I hope that is the right word) in or out.

The new pedal is wider across the center to prevent side to side rocking. I rode them a couple of weeks ago. Very stable. When they become available, I could very well switch I liked them that much. Same SPD SL cleat.

The metal insert is a good idea. I know a few people who had problems because of the plastic bit wearing out too quickly.

Side to side rocking is what I was trying to describe. I have been on the different versions of Shimano pedals for the last 16 years and have always liked them. I was happy when they came out with the SPD-SL since the version before was my least favorite. The new one looks even beter than the SL and from what I hear it is. The new heat molded shoe looks like it will be awesome as well.

To the guys who have ridden or have knowledge of the new shimano spd-sl pedal:
The nose of the new pedal looks a little narrower than the nose on the 7800 pedal. Do you know if this will reduce the lateral movement - not the angular float - that is inherent in the yellow cleats? I mean the ability of the cleat to move left and right, without changing the attitude of the cleat, thereby increasing or decreasing the Q factor?
Apart from this "feature" I simply adore the shimano pedals. Oh how I hope they have eliminated this on the new design.
Can any of you shed some light on this?
