howdy all, looking for anyone who has any experience with putting fenders on a Surly 1x1 frame. I'm putting a disc brake in front, but the rear is getting rim brakes -- I intend on putting useful fenders on this ride - probably Planet Bike Freddy's... my experience in the past is that the v-brakes seem to have clearance issues with fenders - so I'm thinking of going with canti-brakes in the back. So, two questions really - anyone have any knowledge of v-brakes interfering with fenders (or vice-versa really)... secondly if I go with the canti's in the back and the discs in the front -- anyone think I'll be able to go with the same type of levers? Or will I need to mix-n-match (ick)... thanks for any input etc...

Planet Bike says the fenders will work w/ V-brakes

Brake lever wise, you will need different levers for cable discs and cantis. Cable discs and V-brakes use the same levers though.

If you use a cable actuated (mechanical) disc brake on the front then your levers can match no problem, even if you go with a canti in the back because Avid makes their discs in either canti or v brake pull versions - normally the cantis are used when on a cross bike with road levers.
