Here in the mid-west (Missouri) the weather was perfect for riding this week-end. Thurs/Fri rain cleared the air, settled the dust and then relented for a beautiful Sat/Sun. With a bit of fall colors still remaining the rides were superb. I hope it lasts into December.

Yes, yesterday was nice but with wind gusts, and today was perfect. Lots of people out. I came across another rider on Conway approaching Lindbergh on a spectacular Serotta.
Let's hope the weather holds.

A restful weekend for winter maintenance. I was at the girlfriend's installing a deadbolt on her interior door to the garage, installing a new kitchen faucet, and pulling out taps and sink in her powder room so she could paint the walls and cabinet. That should be good for a few dinners...
Otherwise, I spent the morning working at removing the frozen stem from my fixed gear rain bike. I doused the stem with ammonia, reefed hard, got it moving slightly, injected some CO2 inside the stem to try to shrink it, reefed hard a few times, then let it sit and cool off again. Came back, repeated the reefing and ammonia. Did this a few times until finally the stem came out. Then sprayed rustproofing stuff into the steerer tube, swirled it all around with my gun cleaning rod and a large patch, cleaned the stem with a Scotchbrite pad soaked in ammonia, greased the hell out of it, and reinstalled it. I can't believe how quickly that stem got frozen; I had removed it back in January of this year, and it was frozen by September.
We did get out on the tandem, though. It had rained hard in the morning, but the sun was out and the roads had dried by the afternoon. We were out for close to two hours, but it was kind of a stressful ride; too much crazy traffic on a Sunday afternoon. But it was really clear, no smog. Looking like a typical sunny winter day, and beginning to feel like it, too. Very nippy.

Oklahoma was absolutely gorgeous Saturday and Sunday. The drought has provided the most impressive colors of fall in several years. Rode our short 20-miler ride today. 75 degrees, clear, little to no wind.
Yesterday spent an hour touring the County in a 1960'ish Piper Colt. 108 HP two-pace fabric winged airplane. Most of the time we were at 500-1000 feet above ground level. It was great!

here in central Texas, the nights are falling into the 50's with daytime temps in the mid to upper 70's - perfect riding weather
altho with Daylight Saving Time, sunset falls at 5:40 pm :(
My favorite wife & I took off a few minutes before 5 pm this afternoon: we'd put on long sleeves then had to change because the temp was 76 degrees! Still a pretty brisk SE wind up around 10 mph steadily. Rode my Surly around a 15 mile loop over asphalt, gravel, then bumpy country roads and made it to the stoplight within a half mile of the house just as dusk settled, averaging just under 14 mph.
Now I've got to get a rear blinkie or two and a decent headlamp so I don't get bumped off at dusk by a dualie pickup piloted by a college kid yakking on his/her cellphone...

I got in a couple of hours this morning before I had to go to work. Perfectly gorgeous day. We're just starting to see fall color. Next weekend I'll try for a longer ride and take the camera. I'm a sucker for color!

I did a leaf-peeping and cool-weather-clothing experimental run on Saturday in NW Arkansas. The color of the leaves was superior, and the water in the creeks and west fork of the White River was as clear as glass. It was truly a wonder weekend for riding! I got in 43 miles but was pretty much drained at the end of the ride. I've a sneaking suspicion that a ride with cool/cold weather gear on is going to be more taxing than a ride of similar length during the summer.

San Diego was perfect riding weather. Saturday, my husband and I rode the tandem up to the Pt. Loma light house then back to the bay to have lunch at Hudson Bay, a great place for fish tacos. Sunday, husband rode to the mountains and I rode the local areas around where we live, going to Santee Lakes then Mission Trails. Great weather all around this weekend. Mornings are definitely cooler but it seems to warm up quickly.

Temperature wise it was very nice down here, cool front moved through on Sat. Wind wise it was a challenge. Sunday the sustained winds were 15-20mph from the N and gusts into the 30s. Not as bad as they were getting in the NE but enough to make my poor legs shake after doing 40mi.

Here in the Great Lakes, Saturday was cold wet and windy - even a little snow mixed with the rain. No rain Sunday, but the high was 48F and we had winds of 30+ mph. Into the wind was miserable, tailwind was great!
