I just picked up a vintage Brooks saddle that is brown with large brass rivets it has "Professional" and "Select" in the oval logo on the sides. On the bottom metal piece across the back it is stamped B79. It has 2 rails and is not a sprung model, looks like a B17. It has obviously been mounted on a bike and has a few scuffs but also doesn't look ridden (looks new beyond the scuffs and a little green oxidation on the very edges of the rivets) I can't find any refernces to a B79...anyone know what it is?

is the B79 under the saddle? You have a brooks professional or is it team professional? I still don't know the difference. either way it is a great saddle and you should get some proofide on there asap and start riding it. If the B79 is under the saddle as I say I believe it is the year it was made.. 1979.. B could be the month.. february

Thanks guys, sounds like $30.00 well spent..the B79 is under the saddle and it is a Professional Select.

yeah, and I rekon that thang is hard as a rock! Them professionals are nice... nice and hard!

I like the professionals! They take awhile to break in but are comfortable as heck.

Hard as a rock would be an understatement, I suppose it will take a year or so to be comfortable but what the heck, it builds character they say...I rode it yesterday and OH BOY....

Back off on the tension bolt 1/4 turn, treat it once with Neetsfoot oil and ride it. after 500 miles it'll have nice little indents to match your sitz bones, tighten it back 1/4 turn and ride on, it'll just keep gettin comfier. Once yearly hit it with Obernauf's for protection......
