Oh man, I have awaited the releasing of this movie for soo long. He and the whole Ali G character, are just all personal favorites of mine. Anyway, anyone else(besides me)going to the midnight showing on thursday?

And how about the movie, will it be better than the shows?


I think so.

It opens at 9:00 here on friday and I'm going to the opening showing. Just like jackass 2, trailor park boys, miami vice, and every other bloody movie my friend has dragged me to :p.

Opens here on 2/11/06. Reviews say it's hilarious but they can't work out whether it's offensive or not.

Having seen the movie, I can't fathom the possibility that the entire village was in the dark about the reality of things--thinking that this movie was being made to document their suffering and hardship.

the movie was extremely funny. we saw it last night. i laughed more during this movie than i have in years.

What if Borat was instead named Mbecku.
And instead of Kazakhstan, he hailed from Zimbabwe.
And rather than speak of siblings as sex partners, he told of how his people would **** infants to cure themselves of 'the Aids'...

Would it still be funny? Probably not.

Yup. He insulted everybody. That was the genius of the movie. If you can make something that isn't supposed to exist like bias and prejudice in these PC times, and make people squirm, then you've really done something novel.

You may not believe it but I know lots of Kazakhs (one of them is even called Azamat). The ones that have expressed an opinion on Borat do not see it as being a racist thing. They just don't like their country being dissed.

Nope. But given all the previews/clips on the news and the web, I'm pretty sure I get the gist.
It's not a deep concept, folks.

I have seen it. Laughed my a** off the whole time. I laughed. I cried. I almost threw up.

It is offensive, horribly racist, and A JOKE. No one in their right mind would believe that the people in the village are really *******, abortionists, etc. anyway. At least, no one who's ACTUALLY SEEN THE MOVIE. Apparently the two drunken frat boys who pine for the days of slavery are also suing---such a drag being caught as racist pigs on camera! :rolleyes:

The previews and reviews are funny, but not the same as actually seeing it. The whole movie is ridiculous and over the top, and that's the whole point! Sacha Baron Cohen is a devout Jew, and yet spends most of his time as Borat being terribly racist toward Jews and looking for ways to protect himself from them. The idea is to bring out these racist tendencies in others so as to expose what's really there. That's why it's funny and cringe-worthy at the same time.

I'm not saying everyone should like it or think it's funny, but at least understand the concept before bagging on it.

Anyway, before you criticise something for being racist you should probably make an effort to see what you're actually criticising. Otherwise what specifically are you unhappy with in the movie?

I swear, what is it with some people? They seem to want to find racism in everything. I have relatives like that. I remember before one of my many trips to England, my cousin Terri telling me that England is so racist. Now had she ever been there? No. I am sure if you look hard enough, you can find racism everywhere you look. As for myself, I choose not to. Bikerpacker 67, perhaps if you haven't seen the movie you really have no basis for an opinion, although I suppose you have a right to one, uninformed that it may be. By the way, I am black (and I HATE the term African-American). I will see it but I will wait 'til the video is released. I will probably laugh too. I have learned to laugh at myself and have never taken myself too seriously. Perhaps things would be better if we all did the same.
