Touring - Help with Topeak Road Morph!!

Hi all

I have a 2005 Jamis Aurora. I recently picked up a Topeak Road Morph pump and am having a hard time getting it to work with the Aurora. I believe my bike wheels have the Presta valve. After I put the pump on the valve and use the little handle to "click it in place", trying to inflate the tire gets real difficult...ie there is a lot of resistance while pumping in...in the end, it doesnt look like the tire is inflating at all. I am a total newbie to this and would appreciate any help!

Since you aren't sure if your valve is a presta or not, I'll suggest something real basic. Did you unscrew the knurled little nut on the end of the (presta) valve? It should unscrew about 1/4" or so. the valve won't work unless you do this. Remember to retighten it after inflating. You may also have to tighten or loosen the ring on the pump head. It should easily slide on to the valve, but when compressed by flipping the little lever, not leak air. You should also be able to get help from almost any semi-experienced cyclist. You have a great pump and I'm sure you'll get many years of good use from it.

ha. i would never have thought of this since its an autonomous motor function to me now.

i'll just add that you should tap/depress the valve after unlocking/unscrewing it, before attching pump. it tends to freeze up on some valves so that the pump pressure cannot overcome it.
