Touring - Where to go... Where to go... So where you going??

Normally by now we have a hint of where we're going for our yearly 25-28 day summer tour. Last summer it was Switzerland and we couldn't have had a better time.

This summer we were supposed to go to France and have friends that we met this summer wanting us to stay with them. Also being pulled to Austria by another friend. How could we go wrong with either really.

Then again, we've been threatening to tool around Washington/Oregon too. Too many places, not enough time.

So what kinda plans are the rest of you hatching??

Next year will be a bunch of small 4-6 day tours in the province, and/or a few 4-6 day hikes or one month cycling around the golf, I mean gulf, of St-Lawrence that is. Starting in Bathurst NB, acadian coast, PEI, Cape Breton and west coast of Newfie Land, ending with a 3-day boat trip along the St-Lawrence north coast and across to Rimouski. Wether I do the long trip or not will depend on how long I can get away from work.

Begining in May, we plan to cycle from Milan or Pisa, to Brindisi than catch the boat to Greece.
Or fly into Palermo, cycle around Sicily than up to Brindisi for the boat to Greece.
Not sure which one yet, my wife would like to cycle through Tuscani but I like to visit Sicily.
In Greece (from Igoumenitsa) we plan to cycle south to Patra from there we like to spend 7/10 days cycling around Peloponisos and finishing in Athens.

I'm starting 2007 by spending February on the North Island of New Zealand...my second tour to NZ. We gave it 2 months a couple years ago, thinking that would be a good length of time to see the country -- wrong! NZ is such a great cycling paradise, we just have to go back to get more!

...but I'd like to do some touring in the USA in the summer also. Haven't decided when or where yet....

On this Monday, we take a little excursion from Cape Coral across the state to Ft Pierce on back roads, then A1A up to my daughter's in Jacksonville, we calculate it to be about 440 mi, the way we are going.....leave this Monday, 11/6, should roll into Jacksonville on Friday.....unless we come across an occasional Hooter's or Microbrewery....going to rough it on this trip....Motel 6, Red Roof Inn's....Microbreweries in downtown St Augustine may be our downfall....this is a father (60), son (34)trip....

I keep looking at the Beijing to Paris ride that is being "semi" organised and dreaming.

D@#N!!... That looks like a lot of fun. It's one year to the day before we head off on a long ride. :cry: Hmmm. I could retire a year early.

How much time would you plan for this? 180 days or so?

I threw the last one in because our club likes to tour and we could give a fair amount of suggestions.

not exactly cycletouring, but i started off planning to go down the rainbow road by bike, but was invited on an emergency services social bike ride, and went home this way on my triumph tiger ... still two wheels though ...

Aiming for Scotland in the middle of next year.

I'm currently in Tibet, and am headed to Khatmandu. Likely taking the bus most of the friendship highway d/t a really bad dog scare at Darchen/Mt Kailesh (and the weather's crap now here).

I've no idea where I'll go after that. Really. Haven't looked at a map even.

I'm thinking some kind of a loop/doodle about India for the winter, or a flight into South East Asia (somewhere), or a combination of both.

I do plan on "chilling" in Khatmandu for a long bit, fattening up etc...
