I've got a line on a mostly complete Viscount, reported to be missing only the wheelset. The seller says it still has the death fork, and is in otherwise good condition. I haven't seen it yet, and don't have pictures....... BUT ...... ASSUMING it is in decent condition, is it worth $50?

Deal, or no deal? I'll be looking it over tomorrow at lunch.

If it's a good size, and you have a fork laying around, sure.
But don't ask me; I have a stack of frames behind the barn I thought were worth something.

I'm rather biased as I had one as my first "real" bike, so yah
I'd say DEAL. if Bottom Bracket is an issue have it tapped out for
Italian threading, that was the big tweak back in the day.
I'm still semi looking for an Aerospace PRO silver/black/blue in 21"

The press-fit bottom brackets are not necessarily a nightmare to fix if you keep the original spindle (okay, they were prone to snapping off at the circlip, but that's relatively rare). Replacement sealed bearings can be had for about $5 each from LooseScrews or BikePartsEtc.

Had a friend try to sell me a bare viscount frameset for $60 which seemed overpriced but 50 for a almost complete bike if you have a decent wheelset sitting around seems fair. Worth a look atleast.

yeah - went to look. It is a complete bike, but the wheels are tubular and it has a polished aluminum death fork.

I bought it, anyway...... :D

Cripes, you're buying everything that isn't nailed down this week. Why don't you swing over and buy my Trek while you're at it.

Go for it, I did a rebuild on my Viscount, paid $75.00 for a wack of extra parts that I was missing in order to complete the resto, but it came out nice, see pics.

Someone on SF craigslist/bikes for sale had all the Viscount parts to one for 90 dollars the other day.

I ended up getting the whole bike for $50, but I need to ditch the tubular wheels and find a decent set clinchers. Anyone wanna trade?

Get some 700c rims, tape them next to the tubular ones, loosen the spokes and transfer over; retrue.

Or just switch them over and take to a shop for truing.

But you need to keep the spokes in same position, don't unlace the whole wheel and relace from scratch with used spokes. They'll break when riding.

I do like that crank though!

I ride my Lambert all the time. It has been with me for years and many miles. Mine is older with a lugged frame. The frame is big 62 cm and it seems to fit me (6' 1") just right.
It had an English threaded cup and ball BB that I replaced with a cartidge bearing. All the original parts except the crank and brake levers have been replaced.
I rode the Death Fork for a couple of years before it broke. I didn't crash but the bars turned and the fork didn't.
It still has 27" rims but would like to try tubulars.
Good luck with you new old Viscount.
Peace
