Dana Point Bike Rides?

I’m staying in Dana Point this weekend and I’m bringing my bike! Can anybody recommend any local bike rides for me? I’d like to do one 30-40 mile solo ride, and maybe a 20 mile ride with my thirteen year old. Thanks! :)

Last I heard some part of Dana Point was closed off to cyclists and peds.
But I love that place.

Make it simple, go North on PCH for 20 miles and turn around.. Great views, small hills and easy route!

20 miles north would put you around Huntington Beach. Just watch the traffic through downtown Laguna Beach. Lots of cars parked along the narrow road, and no bike lane.

I agree, especially with a 13 year old....I ride through LB once a week...but do this...
Riding Nth towards Laggy Beach, make a right turn on one of the side streets, turn left at the first opportunity and ride parallel with the PCH...WAY safer than staying on the PCH itself...then when you're through downtown take a side street back onto the PCH...and continue up through Newport Beach, Huntington Beach...then onto Sunset Bch...there's a Starbucks on the right hand side at Peter's Landing...

There is approx. 1000' of climbing between Dana Point Harbor and Newport Back Bay, all of it in the form of rollers. While it isn't the hardest route, I wouldn't say it is necessarily easy ... it all depends how fast you take 'em. If you need additional hills, you can always throw in any of: Newport Coast, San Joaquin Hills, Vista Ridge, Ridge Park, Spyglass Hill/El Capitan. As mentioned, be cautious through the Laguna Beach section.

Other nice roads in the Laguna Niguel area are: Crown Valley Pkwy, Niguel Rd, Stonehill, Golden Lantern, Marina Hills, and of course ... Pacific Island Drive.

Yeah, if you want to add a bit of climbing, you can go PCH north to Newport Coast, right on Newport Coast, climb to top. Make left at San Joaquin Hills (which is a bit past the top of NC), continue to MacCarthur, turn left. Take that back to PCH, and turn right to continue north on PCH.

Yes, you're right, they're all nice Roads....

One of my Faves is Moulton to Crown Valley, right on Crown Valley to PCH, through Laguna, Right on the Canyon, Right onto El Toro, Right on Alicia Creek...then Alicia Creek all the way home....
I live pretty much on the Alicia Creek/Moulton Junction...
It's around 23 miles and a great ride!!
