i love this!!!

a few things recently:

1. my stereo stopped playing CDs. sounded like the motor was all burned out. i was putting off buying a new one for a long time and then just the other day i tried it again. works like a charm!!

2. my cell phone ringer was broken for a long time. then one day, out of the blue, it rang!! of course, now it's broken again. but i'm confident that if i hold out a little longer it will start ringing again. :D

3. my bottom bracket was clicking and i couldn't resolve it through all the usual measures. i was dreading taking it in to the bike shop. then all of a sudden it stopped and hasn't clicked again in several weeks. sweet!!!

i love when things take care of themselves! it's a lazy mans dream. does this ever happen to you?

Yeah, all the time. Mostly when I start it for the mechanic.

My DVD changer....but the only reason it works right sometmies, is the Gremlin that's made it it's home has to have a day off every once in a while.

Every other day, I have to be faster than the tray's eject motor, so I can grab and swap the disc before it closes again.

I have these beer bottles that are way TOO full, but with just a little help from me, they seem to get less full.

My windshield wipers occasionally quit, but when the mechanic checks them out, they work fine! He can't find the problem and everything checks out!:fight:

The radio in my old car quit working for two years. One day I hit a pot hole and it started working again. Pot holes are also my solution for re-aligning the wheels.

i suggest you give it more time :) it took about 5 months for my CD to fix itself and over a year for my cell phone to ring again on its own. sometimes being presistent in your lazyness is key. :p

I believe things are in one of two states: working and not-working.

To switch states, it typically takes some knocking. So to flip states again, smack it some more!

I dunno. Seems with me, at least, everything is on a very linear path from "working" to "not working".

Gas guage on the car. Been through two cycles of not working and then getting better.

I'm happy as long as I make it through today without getting turned into a newt.

Speedometer in my car. Went to a baseball coaches meeting 2 yrs ago, and when i got into my car to leave, i noticed the speedometer didn't work. It acted sporatic for a week or two and as soon as i called to take it into the shop, it started working fine.

Worked perfect for another year until.....you guessed it, baseball coaches meeting the following year and the same thing happened. Deja Vue. Completely couldn't believe that it happened a year apart in the exact same place.

Anyway, it only didn't work for a couple blocks and then it started working again. Also, as i thought back, the first time i test drove the car on the used car lot, the speedometer didn't work right when i left the lot. After a few hundred feet it started working.

So my speedometer has fixed itself many times. It probably has only NOT worked for about 30 of the 30,000 miles i have driven it.

Had a sporadic gas-gauge like that once. Ended up relying on the trip-odometer to tell me when I'm on my last 50-miles or so...

With Ford, unlsess you buy their Mustang or Cobra you have to buy 2 of them in the time you'd go through one chevy. :p I'll stick with the chevy tyvm. My Chevy, despite the money i've put into it runs twice better then most Ford cars 2000+ era. I still get my EPA gas mileage :)

Now a Honda or a Toyota and you're talking :D

Is this your clever way of getting me to admit that I put that green goop in my tubes....

I only did it that one time, I was young, inexperienced and impressionable. The other guys, they made me do it. I swear I only did it that one time.

My cable company, may they burn slowly in the fires of Hades, has been doing "upgrades", which means screwing up my service and upgrading their prices to even higher levels while offering fewer channels. Anyhow, my cable box was on the fritz and now suddenly it works, knock wood.

I've been in electrical/mechanical service for about 30 years as a tech and now a manager. You would really be amazed at how often things that really don't work are taken apart, absolutely nothing found wrong, put back together and work just fine. I worked for a couple of years for a tool repair and we were required to enter fault coding on repair tickets. "Found nothing wrong, tool now checks fine" wasn't accepted. So we became very good at making stuff up.

"The radio in my old car quit working for two years. One day I hit a pot hole and it started working again. Pot holes are also my solution for re-aligning the wheels."

I definitely agree with the pothole theory about getting mechanical stuff working. The light in my radio goes out every now and again. But I have found that hitting just the "right" combination of potholes will not only getting my radio lights working, but renew other various problems. The trick of course is again getting the right combination. Sometimes it might be hitting a good size hole on your right front, followed quickly by a "one-two" blast on the left rear. Thankfully here in WI, there are an infinite number and size of potholes to choose from.
I am, as I speak, in the middle of writing a "Car Repair for the mentally Impaired" book which relies heavily on my best combination of "hole hitting" for most of the necessary repairs to a moving vehicle. (bicycles generally not included).
Soon I will probably be rich and famous.

Phil
