Road Cycling - crashed :(

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I had a kinda nasty wipeout during a race on sunday. Helmet broke big time and I was mildly concussed. Like most though I'm more concerned about the bike :) As far as I can see the main problem is a dent of a bit less than an inch in diameter from where the handlebars spun round and thwacked the top tube. The frame is a cannondale Caad7 and the top tube is really really thin so its no surprise that it did dent. Should I be concerned about the frame holding up in future?
I have pretty extensive travel insurance so I might look into seeing whether it covers a new frame and helmet. I've ordered a new helmet but there is no way I can afford a new frame.
If the frame were to break at a later date perhaps partly due to this dent, does anyone think it would be covered by warranty? I'm presuming this might be considered not normal wear & tear :(
Thanks for any advice,
Simon

I'm sorry to hear about your crash. As far as being covered by warranty goes, I really have no idea. If you ask, the worst thing they can do is say "no". What would you lose?

C'Dale should warrantee that frame. Call the customer service number and see what they say.

I don't think that'll be covered
It's not exactly a "manufacturing defect"
It won't be covered by standard warranty, I believe Kenneth is correct on that but they might have a crash replacement warranty that you could take advantage of. Can't hurt to ask.

i've split 2 helmets right near where my temple would have hit. my last accident was with a local cable truck that had a stop sign...rolled then went without looking. he slammed on his brakes in the intersection and i braked hard and slid safely at the foot of the front wheel. i was laying there going ...oh **** i slid on the rear deraileur side. the ultegra is all scuffed up but the frame (steel) didn't have a scratch and i pedalled home with a dislocated shoulder.
oh yeah. i'm limping home (>15 miles away) going like 8 mph and 2 dogs come running after me. a car actually stopped andbeeped their horn till they were scared off.
I would take the bike to the local Cannondale Dealer and have them check it out. I have an older Cannondale frame (can't remember the model number but it was back when it was base on the weight of the frame 2.7, 3.0 . . .). I have a similar dent on the top tube maybe ¾" . I had it checked out and have been riding it with no problems for a few years. I weigh about 200 (at the end of the season). The crash that caused my dent was not very spectacular but was very violent. I had a head on collision (on the bike path) with a big heavy steel department store bike. The impact snapped both legs off of the aluminum fork and destroyed a week old front Mavic Open Pro wheel. There was actually a hole in the side of the rim. The only thing that held the front wheel to the bike was the wire from the computer. I tied my spare tube around the seat post and the head tube to make a sling/shoulder strap so I could carry the broken bike, put the fork legs in my jersey pocket, and used the wrecked front wheel as a cane since I really couldn't walk too well with my pulled groin. I had to walk about three miles to get home and got to show my broken fork to just about everyone who rode by. The other bike was ridden away from the accident.

Definately WILL NOT be covered under warranty! However, I've seen hundreds of frames with that same dent ridden for thousands of miles after the damage occurs! I'm not saying it's fine, w/o seeing it I'm not going out on that limb, but chances are you'll be fine!
