Wonderful weather today. Plus, I had to take my wife to the doctor, so I took off work. After her appointment, I had time for a nice ride. The temperature was around 80 degrees F, the sky was blue, the wind was stiff, out of the southwest. I planned my ride to have a good eight miles of flats with a 3/4 tailwind.

On Centuar Road I came upon a large wild turkey standing on the side of the road, just getting out and enjoying the weather. It didn't move an inch as I rode by. A few miles later, as I was thinking, "Ah, what a wonderful day," I went past some old guys (older than me, anyway), chipping balls onto a putting green. With the tailwind, I was riding about 25 mph. I looked over at them, and when I looked back at the road, my front wheel was sliding off the pavement. I was smart enough to turn off the asphalt, which was about two inches above a rock roadbed, rather than let my wheel grab on the ridge of pavement. I rode off the rock and down a slight embankment onto the grass. The best part: I kept the wheels down. If the old guys noticed me, they didn't let on.

I suppose the day was just too nice for paying much attention to anything.
