View Full Version : Well... time to grow a beard

It's beginning to get cold, I have no work-trips planned for the near future, and no women-type prospects worth considering. I think it's time to stop shaving. It's already been about 5 days since my last shave. Hello scruffy goodness.

It'll be interesting to see how long I can last. Usually make it about a month before I go nuts and shave. I can never seem to make it past the "oh my god it itches, kill me" point. Plus, I dunno when a work-trip will pop up. Have to be clean shaven to go on-site.

Anyone else growing a beard? And all you beard-clad gentlemen (and ladies, if there are some roooowwwwrrr!), do you have any words of wisdom for us wet behind the ears beard growers?

Start with a goatee or something small. That way, your whole face won't be in the "oh my God, it itches" phase all at once.

If you go goat style, make sure it looks just like this and you, too, can win a World Series:

No. It's all or nothing. I've made a pact. Either I grow a full beard or I commit sepuku.

the itchiness goes away after a while. it helps to keep the neck shaved though, as that gets annoying when you have a scarf or other winter clothing item that seals up the neck aera. plus a hairy neck looks a lot more unkempt.

I can't just grow a beard on-demand, lady! You need some patience! I need some patients! Nurse, get my Sawzall and a tumbler of scotch!

What about the upper cheek where the facial hair gets really thin? In times past I've tried cleaning that up and it ended up looking ridiculous.

No too many scotch tumblers, they tend to avoid tumbling, what with the kilt and the no underwear thing and all. Sorry Doc.

Put enough scotch in the Scots and they can't help but tumble, commando or not.

I had burns once. I let them get pretty big. Then, I grew a goatee, too. A few months later, I realized it was totally crazy to just be shaving a little wee teeny triangle on my cheeks each day, so I went for the whole beard.

Then I got a real job, cut my long hair off, and started shaving all over again. I've kinda missed it a few times. I had a goatee last winter, but I haven't decided if I want one this year.

If I was going to drink liquor during hunting, I'd think it would be something like Stag's Breath:

Though, the stuff is pretty horrid.

That is Ambrose Burnside. The nickname "sideburns" originated from him.

No cameras allowed. What happens in Sauna Party, stays in Sauna Party.

But, don't worry, women are allowed, so you're invited. But you have to grow a beard, first.

beards are cool. (and warmer in winter) you gotta shave the cheek part or else you look like the wolfman. shave parallel to your jawline towards your mouth/moustache. can't help you with the itching part as I don't get that myself. also keep it trimmed, not a wild 19th century beard. or unless you're in a contest. I love me my beard!

Now this is not horrid! Drink it instead and let the deer alone.

How much do you leave when you shave your neck? Do you go all the way to the jawline?

some people do, but I think that looks a little wierd. I shave my neck until the point where it goes into my jaw/head. so there's a little bit underneath the jawline but not on the neck. I think it looks more natural. you have to keep it trimmed thpough or you start looking like Bin Laden. unless that's what you're into.
