Classic & Vintage - New tires for the Paramount.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I just lucked across 5 sets of Schwinn Pro Circuit 27x7/8 folding tires, new in box. The price was right-free.
Put a set on my Paramount and I think they look much better than the 27x11/8 that was on it.

Thanks. Have you ever run the old folders? Durability?

To my eyes, it would be perfect if it had Presta valves. Those Schraders look way out of proportion with the skinny tires.

I have the Presta inserts, but I had a perfectly good pair of Schrader 700x25 tubes on hand. But I agree that the presta would look a touch better. Maybe in the spring. Those tires are a pain in the a@@ to remove.

Nope, but I'd be very interested in hearing your opinion on their durability after you've ridden on them for a while.

I was thinking the same thing. Your bike looks great. But with an eye biased by modern standards the Schraeder valves look out of place.
Other nit to pick, how about Dc'ing the pedal reflectors?

Hey, at least I took the spoke reflectors and the cantilever reflectors off.:)
Do they fit the Paramount 27" Weinmann rims? If so, I could use a pair. Keep blowing off modern tires...
well biked

Add my agreement as well. Your bike looks sharp!
I have a set of 27 X 1 IRC tires to run on the rims (presta valve opening) I plan to lace to my HF Campy hubs this winter. It will look so much better than the current 27 X 1 & 1/4 Panaracers. We must be about the same height. My Paramont is a 25 inch (63cm) frame and my seat and stem height look nearly identical. It would be fun to roll one beside the other.

I'm probably shorter than you, I'm 6', but I have a long inseam. I also go back to the old school bike fitting days, and like to stretch out on a good touring bike. I would have bought this bike at just about any size for the price I paid, (unless it was way to small, 21") but 23,24,25, all work for me. From what I've read on many posts, many people pass on really nice rides because they percieve they need an exact size to be comfortable on a bike. Many might be surprised by the feel if they stepped up a size. I would prefer my Paramount to be a 24" but it isn't, but they don't grow on trees. It would be a long ride out to your place, but who knows?

I'm 6' 1 1/2" but have a short inseam for a guy my size. I took mine for it's first shake down ride yesterday, a beautiful day in the mid 50s. It was a wonderful 22 mile ride. At the end of the ride the RD shift cable had stretched or slipped a little and the Brooks was a little lose on the seatpost but other than that, everything went perfectly. Climbed well with my crazy mountain gearing and the descents were rock solid. Braking could be better. The Campy blocks are new and seem good, but I might need to swap to Kool Stops. Or maybe the Camps just need a little more break-in time.
I've yet to see another Paramount other than pictures on the internet. As you said, "they don't grow on trees." One day. Some day, we might even get to ride with one another! An organized Paramount ride?

Bob, are you anywhere near Walpole? I have a good friend who moved there several years back and I'm due to pay him another visit, probably sometime this coming spring.

Yeah, I guess you did luck up finding those tires. Pretty nice, and they look good on that Paramount.
I dont know what it is, but I'm a sucker for white bikes. :D

I could see an all Paramount ride. Imagine 50 or so Paramounts rolling down the road.
Congrats on the bike. I'm sure you'll get many years of enjoyment out of it.

Thanks, I really like white also, but they are harder to keep looking clean. Another white one for your enjoyment

1986 Trek 1500
I'm thinking it'd look even better with tubulars ! (ok I'm biased) :D
+1 on the presta valves
Crazyb very nice looking bikes, the trek needs gumwalls (atmo).

To the OP:
Are those Weinmann 650-series sidepulls? If so, were they original spec, or did you use them in place of Weinmann 999s?

I know what you mean. I find that I like the feel of larger frames better than the smaller ones. Fortunately, at 5' 7" on a good day, most of the bikes that I find are a little too big for me so it works out well. ;)

I'm confused. I thought the Continentals I put on the Trek were gumwalls. Is there a different terminology for that type as well?
