Bicycle Mechanics - Seeking frame painters in the Bay Area

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

first an apology to those who do not live in the san fran bay area.

to residents, i'd be grateful for a referral to people in the bay area who do good bicycle frame painting. i've got a lovely steel touring frame that i'd love to refurbish. i'm going through lug withdrawals, see?

thanks in advance.

Bandit,

I have no experience with them but there's a place in Watsonville called "Joe's Bicycle Painting". Also, you might send Albert Eisentraut in Oakland an e-mail. He makes beautiful lugged frames. I don't know if he does the painting but I'm sure he could help you out. Don't forget Grant Petersen over at Rivendell in Walnut Creek. He might be able to give you some recommendations.

Good Luck,

SteveE

Do yourself a favor
and contact either Joe Bell
(I'd say best painter around, period)
or Brian Baylis.
Brian is in La Mesa
Joe Bell is in Spring Valley.
More info on JB can be found at

calabazas cyclery in san jose might be able to do it/ tell you who can do it. i'm not that good with them anymore, and have not personally seen any of their painted frames, but bob, the owner, knows his sh** and i respect him very much, even if the other workers in the shop are kind of #$^$%&%^.
