Foo - Disney or Universal Studios

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Here is the plan....The family and I (2 kids aged 5 and 12) are going to Ft Lauderdale for Christmas. We are going to spend 1 full day in Orlando to break up the trip. My dilema is this. Use the day to go to Disney or Universal or maybe even Sea World.
Disney...We have been there many times before so we know the layout and we can be pretty efficiant there. Downside is we have been there many times before.
Universal....Never been there so I am afraid we will waste the whole day just learning where things are but then again, maybe thats half the fun.
Your thoughts?
Meh, disney is way more awesome. Having been to both in the past. Disney more times of course though. Disney is layed out with a whole atmosphere and aura, which just makes me happy :D
Not like great america where there are just tons of metal roller coasters everywhere.
Disney, they are the masters, but variety is nice too. No matter which you choose, relax, you can always go back another time.
Learning the park?
That's like getting to read one book a year and picking Gone With the Wind every time because it's so good. Dayum, read Catcher in the Rye once, will ya?

I meant that like this....At disney I don't even need a map. We walk in the gate and know where to go. Universal on the other hand, we will have to waste some of our one day there figuring on where to go and what to see. I love diversity but I am not sure if this is the time for it....

I agree. Great fun. I was there when the Mars Rover was really active and it was awesome. Every kid (even the adult kind) had fun.

It's always time for something different! :)

Wait till summer. Take 'em to Cedar Point in Ohio. The roller coasters there rule all.

Have you ever been? It is less a theme park than just an absolute thrill zone. Millenium Force is the baddest coaster there is. Top Thrill Dragster is the only ride I've seen mulitple folks get told "no, you can't ride because you are too tall/big/short/whatever" due to how crazy fast it goes up 400+ feet and any extra weight will cause it to not make it to the top. I love that place!
You mentioned a 5 year old above. Cedar Point would be okay, but it's really not the best for 5 year olds, since it has less of the theme stuff and their kids area is not very large. It's mostly about the coasters.

We lived in Pittsburgh and used to go to Kennywood weekly. Kennywood is not a bad Coaster park itself. I never did make it to Cedarwood but we had planned to a few times.

Having been in both disney & universal, I think for their ages I would stick with disney, once the 5yo is a couple of years older then universal would make a nice change.

I went to both, Im a grump.. I hate people when they come in masses so I hated both parks..
I liked universal better..but.. if your kids are 5 and 12, ill bet they will like disney better.

Take them to the Serpentarium (http://www.theotherorlando.com/contents/chapters/15/reptile.html), in St. Cloud!
The place is awesome and cheap, and twice a day you can watch them milk cobras for antivenom.
Kids will love seeing all the critters.
