General Cycling Discussion - Does anybody here ride a bicycle?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just thought I would be the first (hopefully, for all that is good and sane) to ask such an obvious and stupid question. :D

I have age and training to work to my advantage. The tables will turn one day.
We hope so, but at another board (the magazine board) I felt there were some there that had never rode a bike!!!!!!

A what? A bike! Oh man, I thought this was a motor-cycle forum! I guess I need to go somewhere else!
Almost 2700 posts, and I've been totally off subject! Sheez!

I've just had 4 days off the bike due to a trip for work.
It felt so good to climb aboard again this morning.

pffft, no one rides bicycles, well... except kids -- bicycles are just toys... and what do kids know about anything anyway? Jump in the game for the big win, drive an Excursion!
My new bike will have a basket... maybe I can find a puppy to ride in it.

Nah, I just spend all my time posting here instead. ;) :D :p
You don't spend enough time here Chris I'm catching up in the post numbers
UGH!!! This is a bicycle forum!! I can't believe I've been hanging with you pimpled little girls for 4000+ posts!!!
It always suprises me that the motorcycle people who come here and get messed up always say we are either little kids, pimpled, or girls...When in reality, there are few kids here, and any girls here could kick those guys' butts..On a bike(a real bike that is) for sure.
I ride.
every day, when I'm not riding them, I'm fixing them.

Do I ride a bicycle? Lets see, the last six months of winter really cut down on my cycling, last summer I worked in the bush didn’t bring my bike, the summer before I was working in different parts of Canada and didn’t have my bike with me, but I got in a one month tour, the summer before that I was working in Afghanistan and with the landmine problem there I thought it wise not to ride, the summer before that I was in one part of Canada and my bike was in another, but I did get in a two and a half month tour, and this summer I may work in the sub-artic and I am not sure if I can bring my bike or if there is a place to ride. But if I do go to the sub-arctic, I will definitely take the winter off and go on a long, long tour!

if I pedal a bicycle am I not proppelling or forcing the bike but if the bike does the pedaling and i do nothing then i would be "riding the bike" similiar to "riding the bus". so the answer to your question is NO, I do not ride a bike, I pedal it without mercy driving it in a forward direction as fast as my legs can move the thing. very few bike "riders" on this forum.

Ok, I'll fess up.....I DO ride a bike. My name is Steve and I'm a bike-a-holic. Maybe not very fast, maybe not gracefully, but, yes, I do ride a bike - often....(sob). Please don't judge me harshly. ( sob again ) ( sniff ).

I ride, you ride, we all ride!:D
I remember mentioning to an acquaintance that I'd just bought a great new bike after coming into some unexpected money. He said "How many cc's?"
"Huh? Uh, I don't know exactly. But it has two bottle cages and I guess they'd hold 1.5 lit of water.... "
Took me awhile to figure out that he was thinking about a motorcycle because no self-respecting man would buy a child's toy to ride around on! ;)

I ain't gettin' on my bike until the first number of the fahrenheit scale is a "7". Five months of slush & snow has made me quite angry!!!!!

If ever it stops snowing here maybe I will give it a try.
I ride vicariously through the BikeForum posts of others! :p
I have been thinking the same question Sailguy. But from the responses I realisied what I really want to know is :
How do you find the time to ride AND read this forum AND post more than 10 messages/day?
There are 3 big demands in my life; work, family, and bicycling. Most of my bicycling time takes from the first two, but sometimes I feel the other way, that work and family are robbing me of bicycling time. Generally bikeforums is done on "work" time. When I first joined in 2001 things were easier at the office and i would spend up to an hour reading here. Those days are gone.

Simple, I only read the threads that interest me. In saying that, my average is only around 4.5 posts/day, so who am I to comment.

If you don't have a family and it is winter and work is really lax (as in I am leaving early to take a few runs down the mountain) it is easy ;)

Not enough :(
Winter weather and work commitments cut my time on the bike...
Then along comes spring, and walking across the road most of my knee went one way, whilst the cartilage didn't ...
Stretched ligaments, bruising, swelling and whilst I can now pedal slowly on the flat, any pressure causes problems ...
sob... sob...

Oh, yes, yes, yes of course.
I am quite sure that at least some of the forum's visitors do indeed "ride" bicycles.
However, In keeping with my positive attitude and friendly unassuming personality I would offer this somewhat "piercing" yet, all-to-accurate observation.
Many forums members imitate bicyclists by "sitting on their bicycles and pedaling." Often these "psuedo" riders will shift gears and steer their bicycles back-and-forth to add realism to the activity. Curiously, they often consider themselve quite accomplished in their respective efforts.
I've enclosed a picture of some chaps riding their bikes so you could see what they look like.
