We hear about all different kinds of people and personalities but today it occurred to me that we never hear or talk about the Manipulators. Do you know one? I think we all do. They are the people that try and manipulate virtually everyone into doing what THEY want.

Actually I was listening to talk radio today while traveling in the car for business. A lady came on talking about dealing with these people. She gave examples of how somebody's mother might try and manipulate them into coming home for Christmas even though they might have other plans like going Snow Skiing.

She also told how it takes a lot of courage to stand up to manipulators and how most people don't. She is right. We all get manipulated by people every day, because we don't want to make them mad or disappoint them. Because of this we end up doing all sorts of things we don't want to just because we are afraid of feeling guilty.

Do you know a Manipulator?

Plenty of them. They are the ones that tend to think of me as an a-hole. Life is too short to play games, so I'll call most manipulators on their games.

For the very rare, passive-aggressive manipulator...I just play the game right back, it tends to get them back to their senses pretty quick when they realize it's not getting them anywhere.

We're all manipulators, some are just better at negotiating than others... Ever since we're born, we're trying to market our ideas to others. Even before we can speak, we're convincing our parents to coddle and feed us by crying. Unfortunately as adults, many people are still crying to get what they want.... ;)

I won't disagree, but that's not what i'm talking about. I'm talking about the people that do it ALL the time. I recognize that we all manipulate in different ways, but I am speaking of the people that do it outright, directly and in your face. They are the people who will put continually in an uncomfortable postion by implying that you should be doing something because they think so.

If you are a good manipulator, nobody would call you one.

I know a few.
They are usually very good at what they do.
They manipulate people using thier feelings.
They can manipulate people and influence thier thoughts, thier actions.
They usually are very good at putting up a good front.
I don't have a problem standing up to them.

People who boss others others around or are demanding or conniving? I think they're babies, and just ignore them. Which infuriates them even more and they get all pouty and whiney... then I laugh at them... heh, heh... :)

2 of my brothers are ass bandits. does that count?
I'm pretty good at nixing people like that. My bro's wife tried doing that with me with my house.
It's pretty easy for most things just because I don't really care about other people's feelings. I guess it's one of the upsides to being a smart-aleck *******.

The thing that pisses me off is that most people just fall in line for the manipulators. YOu know when you have a group of people and there is always the self appointed leader. He decides what everbody else is going to do and more often than not, everyone follows along. I think it is because so many people are conditioned to do what they are told when they are young, that they feel guilty when they don't, even as an adult.

The manipulator preys on this.

ohh yes, and withought those followers, the manipulator is absolutly nothing. and they feel they would be nothing withouth that person, that's what manipulators do best, make them feel as if they belong and there is no other place to be but by it's side.. they know how to play on other's feelings so that they stay in line.
