Great Lakes - Would there be any interest in an Ice Ride up at Lake Wawasee this winter?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

There's a place called the Oakwood Park Hotel at Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, Indiana, with direct lake access. We could put together a ride in Jan or Feb, do some riding out on the lake or around the lake if the ice is no good. If there is enough interest, we can also get a group discount on rooms as well, I believe.:D
Wawasee is the largest natural lake in Indiana, located between Fort Wayne and Elkhart, Indiana, off SR 13.
Nuttin fancy for organizing this event, no entry fee or anything like that, just a bubnch of insane cyclists getting together! Sound like fun??????????:) Chime in! It's about two 1/2 hrs from Chicago, an hr from Ft Wayne, or 2 1/2 from Indy!

Can't be there but I would like to ask if that lake is the one in Pokagen St. Pk.? I used to live in Toledo for a while and we would go winter camping there to ride the tobaggen track, sledding down the hill behind Holiday Inn and just enjoy the solitude of winter camping. But anyway, I remember a big lake around that area near James [or St. James] lake in the Pokagen area. Loved it around there, as there were NO hills in Toledo.

No, that would be around Fremont and Angola, Indiana. NE of Fort Wayne.

Thanks for the reply. I also remember a lot of Amish around the area you have 'pointed' to. Places that had the best baked and canned goods in a small building next to the roads out front of their homes. You just dropped the money in a jar and took what you wanted. I envy you Hoosiers.

I live about one hour from Syracuse and might be interested. Being a noob, I am not familiar with an ice ride. After further explanation I might consider it. If we are riding on the roads (which is a good possibility considering the winters that we have been having) you can pencil me in.

We're looking at a road ride AND perhaps some riding out on the Lake as well if the ice is safe. Studded tires will be needed for this, by the way, at least for the on the lake ride!:D

I think that I would be up for that. Count me in. I will need advice on the studded tires part of it. Any guidance will be appreciated.
