Any Kingston cyclists out there? Just recently moved here.
I ride fixed most of the time but just picked up a road bike and looking to put some km's on it. Do some trail riding as well.

Remind me to find out for you, but my wife knows someone who does group rides in K-town. I check it out and get you the details if you are interested. I might be there for a few days over the holidays. I'll bring the s/s if the weather isn't too bad.
I'm in Kingston. Moved here from NYC and I'm currently shopping for my first road bike. I'm on Bath Road.

Cool i’m just off Bath as well around Bayridge (no frills) I actually picked up a road bike here in town @ cycle path nice people (trek). Two other places i liked were gears & grinds (higher end stuff it seems?)A great guy who runs the place. And frontenac cycle (fuji) here is a link to the address’s

No bike at all now?
Cheers
No, no bike just yet. I rode a Trek 2200 today, very smooth. I put in an offer for an all carbon bike. Should get an answer back within a week. Which Trek did you buy?
http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q274/sweep242/DSCN1457.jpg
I got a 2006 Trek 1000 so far so good. Not riding it much cause im lazy, despite it being new still reaching for my fixed gear 1st.
You put an offer in? Evil-bay? Ha ha
Cheers
"Evil-bay" LOL, No! The owner Cycle Path and one of his employee are selling their bikes. A little more than what I wanted to spend but I figured I'll keep this bike for a long time (very very long time according to the wife) I'm heading out to Gan today to ride some bikes, Ti-Cycle
Hey that would be nice to grab something nice less then retail & from a shop to boot. I also convinced my wife that i really need a road bike with note's of i'll have it for a really long time & cause my fixie aint cutting it. Ha ha
Ti-cycle heard of it haven’t been there yet.
Have you walked around le moine point yet? I’ve been riding around there with my MTB lately very nice.
Cheers
I've been through le moine point once. That was about three years ago. The wife and I drove through the parking lot to make a uturn there last weekend. I mentioned to her that if I had a mt bike I could ride through the park. She yelled at me for wanting two bikes. No second biek for me until she gets hers.
Welcome to K-town, Sweep. If you live out on Bath Road you're already on the way to Picton. Highway 33's my favorite lazy ride (it's flat as a pancake, but the scenery is beautiful). The thing about Kingston and the east-west rides (Highway 2 to Brockville or Highway 33 to Picton) is that you're also on the shores of Canada's inland sailing capital with semi-predictable easterlies and westerlies. Get ready for leg-destroying headwinds and oh-my-god I'm-Lance-Armstrong tailwinds.
I'm a sophmore roadie, still riding a churched-up Nishiki beater with a fresh wheelset (I'll go upmarket once my fitness is deserving of the privelege). I'm a year-round commuter with a beat up x-mart bike that isn't theft bait (beware Kingston's army of ill-bred bike thieves who will swipe anything with wheels). I've got a semi-durable Raleigh hardtail for cross-country MTB, although there aren't too may opportunities around K-town (I really miss Thunder Bay). The part of the old Fort-Henry trails that DND didn't close down and the trail off of Collins Bay Rd. are OK technical trails, but not much of a cross-country ride.
My road interests are in brevet riding (hope to complete a double-century in 2007 Kingston-to-Brockville-to-Kingston-to-Picton and back. I'm keen to score a used Trek Pilot (57 cm) for a slightly less taxing long-haul position. Gimme a shout if you know any ultracycling wannabes who want to train up.
Thanks eddie. Yes I'm familiar with hwy 33. Drove back on the ferry from Picton a few weeks ago. Looked like a good bike ride and came highly recommended from a buddy who owns a bike shop in Picton http://www.idealbike.com/. Never been out the hwy 2 way.
This is my first road bike - entry level - hope to get my fitness up as well. Having slight withdrawal and getting out of shape. FAST. Used to be a year round commuter til I moved here and can't find my way out of a paper bag. LOL. Have map, will travel.
The only off road has been at Lemoine Point but heard about Fort Henry but nothing about Collins Bay Rd. Gotta look for that one since it's so close.
Ultracycling, not me, not yet. I've been in and out of Hotel Dieu the last 2 days. The internet doctor said I was about to die but apparently just have an inflamed appendix.
Hope to tag along on a run to Picton.
Cheers
I went to Ideal bike in Picton. Nice guy there that runs the shop. I've been thinking of doing a ride to Picton late next spring early summer. Haven't had mych training but I did a four hour ride in Gan this past week.

Ya Ed owns & runs the place he relocated there from Toronto witch was down the street from me. My LBS way back when.
A 4 hour ride! Did you do it on one of the bikes from Ti-cycle? How is that place got to check it out some time?
Yes a ride out to picton is a to do for sure! Around spring, summer.
Cheers
If I did four hours of anything strenuous not sure what would happen ha-ha
Finally got a bike. Went out yesterday for a short ride.

Hey, wow looks shinny new? Very nice. I’ve put some new parts on my bike need to put the cables back in place to get it together. So we will have to get rolling when the weather gets nicer.
Cheers
Its -13 today still see people out riding.
It's freezing here in Kingston. It sucks that after searching so long for a bike and noe being able to ride it. It has to be at least 2 to 4* before I'll ride.
At the beginning of the season we had no snow & not to cold, now we got to much snow & dam its cold. *****ing about the weather makes me feel better and the time pass.
DUHI4GOT You keeping warm? Although not much different then New York i'm guessing.
Went down to cycle path last week ashton was receiving a bunch of boxes of stock for the coming season.
Cheers
There is an amazing group that focus their bike talents on fixing old bikes and giving them back to the community. Yellow Bike action, say hi to Barb for me.
Its at 23 Carlisle St 545-0404;)

Arrhh. Good to see you guy's got a web site up & made it on Martino's blog. I will check the place out for sure. I did a few summer CM rides with some of the guys from there on the crazy choppers/funny bikes.
Cheers
Y'all have the February blahs. Hold on, spring's coming. I was enjoying the sub-optimal weather until the freewheel and bottom bracket of my winter beater died at the same time. The local commute wasn't too bad on a pair of Schwable snow studs, the only time I went down was when I stepped out my front door onto a patch of snow-covered ice. Did have that one snowstorm two weeks back when nothing packed right and every street was greasy slush -- just more challenges to make us better technical riders, I guess....

February now gone hang on there is a snow storm out there now ha ha i haven’t really had to commute much so i should not complain.
After last winter i had the LBS true my wheels to my surprise each & every spoke nipple disintegrated when touched with a spoke wrench. I had to replace them all with brass then brought them back to get fixed up. Winter, not well for wheels either. Oh my v brakes on that bike are dead to.
I got my self a set of rollers witch I’m spending more & more time on. Well trying to.
Cheers
The Schwable snow studs look great Toronto just had the annual ice race here is a link to some pics

"to my surprise each & every spoke nipple disintegrated ..."
Hey Sweeps, that also happened to me on my 2004 Trek 1000. My LBS here in Ottawa said that that sometime happens with wheels made by machine. That was on the rear wheel only. I've ridden over 10000km with my Trek and I can't say enough good things about it. I've taken to cycling so much because of it that last spring I upgraded to a Devinci for my long rides. My Trek is now my commuter. I'm considering Ottawa Bike Clubs classic Rideau Lakes Tour (Ottawa-Kingston-Ottawa) in June. Have you ever thought about it? 1800 people snap up the tickets pretty quickly.
BTW, I'm a Kingston lad myself but I moved away when I was three weeks old! LOL. My parents live there though and we visit regularly. Last summer one of my parent's neighbours led me up route 2 to Gan - a most excellent ride. And then she took me along a route along the lake that went to the glenora ferry. That was sweet as well.
Treker
The wheels were a from my winter MTB beater the nipples were alloy the salt eats them up nicely, brass are heavier but go a lot longer in crappy weather.
The trek 1000 seams to be very popular, loving mine so far i did buy it beginning of winter so not many km's on it yet. Not to sure i could pull off Ottawa, here & back that would be crazy, but sounds like fun for sure.
I have talked to a coupe of people about routes so i hope to try some. I’m on bath so i'll be heading west a lot & if you do the ride with your parents neighbor again let me know.
Cheers
Sweeps,
When I head back to Kingston with bike in tow, I'll give you a heads up. My parents just moved from a house on the water just east of K~ and are now living in a nice apt on what they tell me is Block D downtown. It's an age thing...so I don't know how parking my bike at their place is going to work :-(
Again, I can't say enough good things about the Trek 1000. If you have a newer model, you probably have a carbon fork and seatpost with a Tiagra derailleur? Sweet. I'm all aluminum with Sora front and back. But for the price, it's a super bike.
Two summers back I solo'ed from Ottawa to K~ on my Trek. While it was an superb experience, I wouldn't do it again - alone. With no one to share the wind, my Trek got heavy in the last couple of hours. And the wind picked up around Westport. 8 1/2 hours of wheels turning, 10 hours real time. Picked up a nice tan though. LOL. I am seriously considering the OBC's Rideau lakes tour though. It has lots of support.
How often do you ride when the weather is fair? I'm fortunate that I can commute on my bike. Actually, I rode in today but the weather network changed the forecast on me last night. It looks like I'll be heading home in the rain. +8 though. C'est la vie. At least I'm on my wheels.
Cheers.

Yes it dose have a carbon fork & seat post first time for any carbon parts for me. I’ve put 105 front & rear derailers on & a 105 double crank.
8 to 10 hours darn that is a long time in the saddle but if you have others around you might not be so bad? Too much for me my last longish ride was about 70km and wasn’t to bad & there were a bunch of us it did make it more interesting I could have gone longer I’m sure, but that was just how long the ride was.
Not as much as I would like but get out there when I can (I have kids & wife) so I do what I can. Also there is a great park beside me to ride trails on the MTB bike for quick in & out rides. I defiantly want to spend more time on the road bike it is new!
Yes the melt down is here so I’ll be happy to have fewer excuses. If you do bring the bike for sure give a heads up.
Cheers
I drive a truck toronto to montreal and back every day. I take my bike with me and ride whenever i have time. my favourite ride along the coridor is around kingston. the roads are very bike friendly with nice wide paved shoulders. I usually stop at the husky truck stop at joyceville and ride from there. great riding area

My dad used to ride that same area, along route 2 from Kingston, up Joyceville, left after passing the fire hall, and then left again to meet up with 2. I did it with him once. It's a very nice ride indeed. I don't know how anyone could go arong biking east of K~. :-)
Yes I’ve done some car rides from Toronto to Montreal a few times only to or from not there & back in the same day that would be a long day.
I have been through joyceville but not on my bike.
I’m thinking about joining the local velo club to help me get out & explore.

Must get bike fixed first. It’s being sorted out now! & have no idea how it happened?
Bump
Frame replaced N/P i'm rolling.
Love Kingston.....My father was posted there twice when I was growing up and I would love to get back there, but right now I'm pretty close in Ottawa.
I've done the Rideau Lakes Tour;Ottawa to Kingston and back the next day(yes, back to back centuries) 15 times so far.
A back operation has put a stop to that the last couple of years but can't wait to go again.
Anyone thinking of doing it apply early(Feburary) at the Ottawa Bike Club Website, the ride isn't till June but it is that popular(Some sell their spots after regestering which is on the site as well)
Go Kingston

The one thing here that i’m getting use to is seeing guys walking around in full camo uniforms!
The Rideau Lakes Tour seems to be a popular one i have no plains to do it at least at this point. I just had a look & registration is open.
I think Treker who posts here is thinking about it?
Hope your back is feeling better.
Also I went to this shop last weekend wow a must stop http://www.ti-cycle.com/ nice stuff.
15 Ott-Kingstons? Nice. When you ride it, how many in your group? I suppose sharing the wind over that distance makes a big difference.
No RL Tour this year although it was tempting. I may ride O-K in late Aug or early Sep with my nephew who's studying @ Queen's. He's a MB at heart but picked up a sweet roadie in the spring to complement his training.
I did 50k in Montreal Tour de l'Ile last w.e with my 11 year old - what a blast cycling with 30,000 others. Weekend mornings have been cool here (Ottawa) so I haven't sprung loose for any centuries - yet.
For RLT (ottawa-kingston,kingston-ottawa) My "group" was : Me....there is a limit of 1500 riders,so some years I met up with a couple of the local club riders who were at my speed (medium tourist:25-30kph)and we'd get some miles(kilometers) in together...

Thankfully it has warmed up here! It was crazy cold for a bit.
I've heard of the Montréal ride before from others, 30,000 that would be so cool to ride with that many in the streets.
Speaking of MTB's i hit Taylor kid - Collins bay rd trails for the first time this week that was a nice change form lemonie pointe, i'm sure your nephew has been there but ask him, a must go.
Hey Sweep. Did you ride yesterday (10/6)? I did my aerobic class then Holly and I set out for Bath. Less than a mile from my house I got a flat. I pushed the bike back and repaired it. We rode to Bath, ate and then decided to ride to the Picton Ferry. We then took the ferry into downtown Picton and turned around by the A&P. We stopped at Subway and ate before heading back to the ferry. We did 120.89 KM. What a ride. I noticed a few Treks in your color.

Wife & i did a road trip to Ikea in Toronto. But hitting Picton is exactly what I’d like to do. I no longer have the orange trek, the frame cracked! It now looks like this.A 2007 with some 105 stuff on it.

Looks nice. Not sure which color I like more. The other was unique. How did the other one crack?

I too would like to know how your frame cracked. Usually frames are warrantied for 5 years or even for its lifetime. Did you get the same deal.
Why won't mine crack? Although I look upon my 2004 Trek 1000 as the trusted steed it is, sometimes one dreams... (of course I ride my Devinci on the w/e long distance rides) ;)
I rode that Bath rode ride last year with a friend familiar with that route. Fantastic outing, although we turned around at the ferry. Amazingly she only consumed one bottle of water over the course of the ride while I finished four.

I liked the orange one as well but kind of like the all black a bit better.
So ya i got it in November did a couple of rides it then sat in the basement till X-Mas got a set rollers & used it on them for the winter so i really have no idea how or when it happened? I really did baby it!
so i took it down to cylepath showed it to Ashton he was a bit surprised but got everything sorted out no problem gave me a choice of the 07's & swapped everything over to the new frame. It took 3 weeks & no charge at all!
Not happy that it happened, but happy with the outcome.
You can see the crack it post 29 this page.

Last few weeks I’ve been riding down to Glenora ferry / Adolphustown, today i did HWY 2 out to Gananoque a good ride not as scenic as 33 but all good. A handful of cyclists out i think motorcycles out numbered cyclists like 20 to 1!
Cheers
Anyone up for an escort?
On Saturday, Aug 25, my nephew and I will be riding from Ottawa into Kingston on the No. 10-Perth Road at about 2PM. Anyone up for accompanying us for the last 50k or so? Weather's looking good so far.... :)
Update: Not going to happen on Saturday. Maybe Sunday...
I hope to do a ride tomorrow my allotted time will be in the morning though. Maybe i'll hit there, haven’t ridden that yet. How many km’s would that be Ottawa to kingston ?
Treker hope you had a good ride to K-town today. I ended up doing the regular route bath rd but mixed it up by doing a loop via 33-6-2-4-33 got about 44km in 2 hours. I had a timeline.
does anyone here ride the trails at Collin's Bay and Taylor-Kidd? I spoke to sweep briefly, but have yet to see him out. I'm there pretty much everyday, it would be great to meet some more local trailriders. Anywho, if you see a guy riding a very noisey and ugly Columbia....say "hey". My friend also rides back there. He's on a red 2007 Gary Fisher Hifi...he usually has his dog running behind him.

Ha Ha vanno yes i opted to go for a road ride last Sunday(my only free day) & cut it a bit short to get home take a break & head out on the MTB bike HA no dice!
Tomorrow looks bleak as well wife is working & i work Monday! I NEED A BREAK. Kids for sale!
... Kids for sale!
LMAO. :D Great idea! Now why didn't I think of that? ;)
Hey fella's! John told me about signing up here... So here I am!! lol

Hey Joe! We just crossed paths (no pun intended) on Facebook recently.
Hopefully you, John and I can hook up a ride together before the end of the season. John and I were in the trails this last Sunday... We're running out of this fantastic weather!!
:(
Hey Hey
Yep that was a good ride on Sunday, that one path we hit was great. must go again!
Cheers
