I think this would make a cool vacation place. All motor vehicles banned for more than a century already, the only way to get around is by foot, by bike, and by horse drawn taxis.

Having ridden Mackinac Island, it's not as idyllic as you seem to picture/imagine!
Fire engine/police cars allowed; horses leave 'loads of exhaust' on the road that you'need to avoid. Plus wintertime you'll need skis to get around.
Summertime tourists abound on 'rent-a-bikes' and they are all over the road, as is devoid of passenger cars/trucks . . . so they stop and chat in middle of the road in groups, necessitating having to holler 'coming through!' . . . most haven't a clue of what that's all about
fresh horse manure? We have . . .

that sucks. it sounded cool. i remember when my wife and i went to yosemite a few years ago we had a blast on the rent a bikes. we went in sept though so it wasn't too crowded
