Hello all: My name is Gerry Chan and I live in Gaithersburg MD which is in the Wash DC metro area. I have been riding road bikes since 1970. My first 10 speed was a Gitane. I got my 1st serious road bike in 1973, a Nishiki Professional. I came with centerpull brakes but silk tubular tires. I rode that bike for 20 yrs. (with 8 yrs. off for college and grad school) ,slowly upgrading to a full Campy NR grouppo and a Brooks Pro saddle while still in high school. In 1991 I also got a Serotta Colorado II with Dura Ace. I used to ride over 4000 milws /yr. but now have a family (3 young kids) so I am lucky to ride 1000/yr.

Just yesterday I converted my beloved Nishiki Pro to a FIXEE. I am using a 69.9" gearing which is low enough for climbing the hills around here but high enoug to have decent speed on the descents. I did my 1st club ride with it and I wish I had done this years ago! I was a great workout and the bike is so much quieter and the cycling experience is so much "purer". The tires just sing along the pavement.

Hope to be able to share some stories with you all in the future. I am just getting back into riding and I remember that cycling is a big part of who I am.

PS I still prefer to ride on tubulars but have a set of clincher wheels for both bikes. Gerry
