Hello~

I have a Trek 5000 WSD with 650c x 25 tires. I need to replace one of the tires. I know it's hard finding a 650c tire that's affordable, but I thought I'd get the "Continental Clincher Ultra GatorSkin Tire 650c" for use on my roller & trainer. My question is if it says "650c x 23" will fit on my 650c x 25 wheel?

Any other durable tire recommendations?

I'm just learning the mechanics of biking, so please bare with me:o

Yes, it will fit fine.

Despite the labeling, bike rims are pretty tolerant of tire width variation. One of the more enlightening examples is that Mavic Open Pro rims, a popular road rim, are used successfully with everything from 700x20 racing tires up to 700x35 tires (for cyclocross).

My wife rides a Trek 5200 WSD, we have several good bike shops in our area and none of them keep 650 tires or tubes in stock. We keep a supply of new tires and tubes in our house. She thinks the Michelin Pro Race2 tires (655c X 23) are a big improvement over what came new on the bike.

I'm still trying to decide on which tire to get. I'm going to stop by the bike store today to see if they have any options as well. More importantly, I can't wait to order it online, I need one now!

650c stuff can defintely be hard to find. The Michelin Pro2Race are great. Continental GP4000's are good, too.

Honestly, I wouldn't bother with an LBS for tires, especially in a "weird" size. I get my 650c tires from probikekit. The two above-mentioned models are usually around $33. I'd be willing to bet the price in an LBS will average about twice that. Free shipping, and stupidly low prices. Even though they're overseas, stuff is usually here in 4 - 5 days.
