When it comes to stationary bikes at the gym, i get a severe case of ADD. I started the year being able to do 45 straight mins. Now, i can barely get up to 5 mins without getting fustrated and storming out of the gym. Something about these things seem so retarted.

Can you guys recommend any different excercises or anything to compenstate for the lack of cardio in my workout. the weather has been anything but good for the last 7 months. with the spring weather here, but not seeing the sun for the last 2 months, you wonder if its still there or not.

Get yourself an old training bike that can take fenders.
Put on some warm/waterproof clothing.
Get out

more specific advice see icebike .com

If you really have to avoid the outdoors, then swimming can be good.

And we have such poor weather here in England !!
For the past 5 weeks it has been dry, mostly sunny and 12-16 C

Have you considered cyclo-cross or trail riding?

Hey, killerasp, have you considered bringing a walkman and an audiobook with you? I have a 5-hour paper route, and nothing makes it more enjoyable than being able to 'read' while I work. Your local library might have audiobooks, check it out.....they are available on cassette or CD these days.

Killer, have you tried the trainer with music? If you can find the right music for you it would help a lot. Works for me, anyway. But three or four times a week max. Another possibility is running stairs. If you have access to a multi-story building with stairs, running the stairs will give you a monster cardio workout. My final suggestion is walking. We can usually walk no matter how bad the weather. A good pair of walking shoes, several layers of clothing, and away you go from your driveway or whatever. Walking briskly for an hour every day will give you a good cardio base in a few weeks. Hope this helps a bit.

If you have too much ice why don't you consider ice skating. Also you can try power walking at the largest area mall just try not to buy anything or you will burn mostly cash lol.I like to sometimes cycle to the local outlet mall(I think the worlds largest or something like that)and then walk around at a fast pace for a few hours. Its actually kind of fun bobbing and weaving around slower walkers and makes good crosstraining.

Do those stationary bikes have a computer on them? I know the ones at my gym let you choose a variety of workouts so it's not so static. You can also "race" other people in the gym and play games on them :) I prefer the elliptical trainers and the stair steppers though, usually if i'm biking... it's outside.

Cyclo cross is a winter cycling sport, 1 hour in duration, raced around a circuit of mixed road, trail, mud, with some technical jumps and hops.
It is a traditional winter passtime for European road cyclists and getting very popular in the US. It is very intensive, so you dont get cold.
The trad CX bike is an Al racer with cantelever brakes, and low ratio gears, using knobbly thin tyres. The rules are pretty relaxed, and in reality, you just turn up on any style of bike you want and go.
See the cyclo-cross forum for firsthand info.
There are plenty of cyclocross websites, but I dont know which are the best for your area.

Try a spinning class. Monster cardio! Lots of fun! Many who teach are bikers anyhow - so offer lots of tips and inspiration.
