I was lookign through eBay and found a pair of Cairns up for bid. Does anyone have these shoes and care to comment? For that matter, does Nike still make MTB shoes, I see MANY road shoes available but never see mention of off road shoes.

In regards to size, the shoes on eBay are 11.5's. I have heard that Nike shoes are different in size? How so?

Bradley,
Check sierratradingpost.com. They had a BUNCH of Northwave mtb shoes a couple of weeks ago at very good prices. You can do a vendor search. I think they had some Shimanos also. The best deal they have right now are on some Shimano road shoes that will take SPD or Look cleats. One model $32.95 another $19.95. Yesterday they had some of the $32.95 ones in 11.5 (46). The Shimanos run large; 47, which is nominal 11.5, fits me a little loose and I wear a 12. I just looked. They have some Northwaves for $59.95 in 47. Check this:

Go look at their specialty sports gear and apparel to see what Shimanos they have. Shimano is not listed on the brand name search, but they are there.

Raymond

I have a pair of Nike Inyo's I got from Pricepoint.com for 34.98. Really like them so far. They have some others too but these were a good buy and they still have them. Order a full size larger than what you normally wear. DG

Bradley, the Nikes run a full size small AND the Cairns run very narrow. So if you have a wide foot I would forget them.

Thanks for the replies especially regarding the sizing. Did Nike get totally out of the off road shoe market? I surely hope not now that I am in diar need of a couple of new pairs. I would hate to see all those road offerings (seen on Trekbikes.com) and not see any commitment to the off road world too. I guess if this doesn't work out I will "settle" for Northwaves lol.

Servus!

Here is my unsolicited response to the Nike question: JUST DON'T DO IT! I have had a pair of Cairns disintegrate on me in six months. A Vienna courier I knew blew his out in three days! Nike make superb athletic shoes, but they need to go back to the drawing board IMHO re. cycling shoes. Then again, your mileage may vary.

As for "settling" for Northwaves, here in Europe you would be considered insane to want Nike over NW. No kidding, NW is supremely popular and worn by countless riders. I ride Sidi simply because they were on sale. If NW was, I'd ride those.
