Hi all!

Realising that I'm only really going to persist with exercise if I enjoy it I decided last year to start cycling again. I put some slicks onto my 7 year old Ridgeback moutain bike and made the commitment to commute the 20 mile round trip to work at least twice a week. Part of the deal with myself was a reward of a new mountain bike if I kept up the commuting side of the bargain.

Well I was soon the owner of a Specialized Hardrock Uno, a fairly low end mountain bike. I figure if I'm going to be trying to save weight anywhere I need to deal with myself first. 6'1" and 210 pounds, no point throwing money at the bike just to save a pound or so :D The commuting must have done some good since I can haul myself up most hills around here. Did some nice rides out at Snoqualmie (apart from the damn mosquitoes), North Bend and Tiger Mt.

The commuting lapsed during the Seattle rainy season but I started up again a few weeks back and weather permitting am going for twice a week. When the summer really kicks in I'm going to try the commute at least 3 times a week.

Anyway, basically just enjoying being back on a bike again, this is FUN

Welcome to the forums!! I heard that Seattle's rainy season pretty much lasts 363 days out of the year. If that's the case you only have two days of riding season? :D

You have some good riding up that way! Lots of hills (Mountains even). Do you get out into some of the less populated areas to ride?

threadend nods and subtly waves three fingers on his left hand without removing it from the drops

Oh yeah, plenty of mountains out this way :) The day that I bought my mountain bike I went on a ride with a friend. We certainly got into a less populated area... so much so that we ended up getting mountain rescue out to come and get us back :( :( - very embarrassing episode, learnt the hard way about a lot of mistakes I won't be making again... it's a long story and I think I'll wait a while until I tell everyone on this forum how much of an idiot I was that day :D
