I was just wondering, if you could only pick one, what was your favorite upgrade to you current ride....
Thought this might prove interesting.
Tell your friends to send in their $.02 also.
Thanks

I was very happy with the component mix on my Trek 5200. The only problem I had with the bike was the seat that was supplied. It was a Selle San Marco Era Lux. This seat lasted for one ride before I changed it out for a Selle Italia Trans Am.
A Brooks saddle, everything else is a pain in the a$$.
When I got my new bike the beat upgrade from previos biks was the CK headset.

Upgrading from a Ultegra Groupo to full Dura Ace! That is what I'm in the process of doing now. :D It's fun getting the best prices I can on Ebay or this sale and that one. Piece by piece the horse is taking shape! :)

My lastest upgrade was speedplay X/2 pedals, from inexpensive shimanos that came with my lemond BA. I love the X/2s for all the reasons that others do (very light, very easy in/out, float), but the unexpected personal advantage for me was the decrease in stack height compared to the shimanos. This allowed me to lower my seat a bit, and therefore the vertical drop from the seat to the bars. I was feeling I was on a frame one size small, but feel more comfortable on the bike overall with this change.

My relatively new Brooks Swift TI and I have gotten along very well thus far. The next true test will be tomorrow when I attempt to complete a metric century - my first attempt since jumping back on the bike!

Cool, toothpick, are you aiming for an organized ride or going it alone?
THis is a good question. I think getting a new saddle, combined with getting the bike set up right (finally) has made the biggest difference. I'm getting the pieces together to go threadless in the headset, though, so we'll see what that does.

An organized ride. Weather is expected to be good, and a friend is also going to give it a go. I've been doing 45 alone a couple of times a week, and I rode 53 a week ago......I think I can, I think I can.....

If you're good at 45 solo, you're money for the full metric. If you're alright with that ride, you should aim for the full century at Ride for the Roses in October. I'll be making the quick 13 hour drive from here to do it again this year. Mmmmmm...hill country in the fall. I can't wait.

good wheels make you go faster- the rest are more for comfort and luxury.
