Introductions - Hello from a non-cyclist in Texas

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi everyone! You might be wondering what a non-cyclist is doing registering for BikeForums, but my husband, cuda2k, spends so much time here that I figured it must be worth checking out. I never learned to ride a bike as a kid, and as a musician, I'm extra cautious of doing anything that might cause injury to my arms and hands... and despite my husband's assurances that I'd be fine, I'm not willing to try and start learning to ride at age 27 with my poor sense of balance and multiple gigs coming up. :o
Anyway, I plan on hanging out in Foo most of the time while I'm here, or until cuda2k decides to ban me (since he's one of the newest mods)... :p

What type of music do you play, solo or in a group? Perhaps you can be a support car driver on his rides and provide entertainment at the rest stops. I agree with your husband on the risk, but you must set your own priorities.

I'm a flutist, and I play both solo and in a local orchestra. We've talked about me volunteering when he goes on his 100k+ organized rides, but so far that hasn't happened (yet).
And as for providing entertainment at the rest stops... you do mean music-related entertainment, right? ;) It actually might be sort of fun to buy a tin whistle or something, just to see the "huh?" looks on all the cyclist's faces. :p
I've promised my wife I wouldn't push her to learn to ride. If she ever makes the decision to learn to ride I intend to support her in any way possible. But unless/until that day arrives I'm happy that she supports me in my riding. Hopefully she'll stick around and post in Foo some. We're all a good community and I'm sure a few non-cyclists over in Foo could be a good thing too. :)
Welcome, keep him straight and don't start any of this "budget" stuff that Martha started with me today. There are lots worse things that Jon and I could squander our money on.
Welcome to the forums. :) You two should get a tandem. Then you can enjoy the riding and have your husband be responsible for making sure you stay safe.

Happyfeet, here's what my wife rides! She is missing an inner ear due to tumor removal and thought she was going to have ro quit riding, and didn't for a number of years!

Hmm... I like that idea! All the pleasure of riding a bike without worrying (as much) about falling over, plus I get to spend more time with my husband. Plus I'll get to buy cute biking outfits, hehe. Maybe once we have more disposable income, we can look into it.
Tom Stormcrowe, that kind of bike is right up my alley if I was ever to go riding solo! That's great that your wife was able to find a way to go riding again. :)

Mrs Stormcrowe says it's just like riding a Lazy Boy recliner as far as comfort factor goes!http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/mittelgrosse/medium-smiley-064.gif

Happyfeet welcome to BF! You got yourself a good guy there with Cuda and it looks like he did pretty well himself. So good to see a spouse that encourages her husbands hobbies even though you don't ride....yet. :D
Don't sweat it HappyFeet, I'm a non-cyclist too (Ok, y'all happy, I'm fianly totaly out of the closet) I have a bicycle, but only so I can show pictures of it. I really don't ride the bloody thing.
Why am I here then you ask... Coz I love the people! :D

Lately I have been a non cyclist, laziness has crept in.
But I do love the regulars in foo.
