Hey,

I am new here. Stumbled on this site while searching for a forum that wasn't biased towards one thing or another. This one seems to be it. Their is road talk in the road forum and mountain talk in the mountain forum. Exactly what I wanted.

I currently ride a 2001 Kona Caldera. Stuff thats not stock. My titanium railed selle italia seat, XTR front derailler, Michelline windgripper rear tire (the one that has the LEAST TREAD and is the HARDEST TO USE IN THIS SPRING WEATHER!)

Other then that its stock. Didn't ride it as much as I planned first year I owned it hurt my self camping and then didn't ride much after my arm was able to be moved (bought in july hurt begining of august felt better by sept. and then back in school + work full time)

Last year I honestly dont know what happened. I road maybe 100kms mostly on road which I dont even want to admit. I used to ride 100km a day on my mountain bike easy.

Well now I am thinking of a road bike, yet to decide if I want to justify the money (rather the interest on the credit card that will purchase mybike) but I am thinking I may ride to work more if I get one... I dunno save that for another post.

Welcome to the Forum Chad. You will find this to be a great place to find out information and to share with us what you know. I used to live in Toronto, now Winnipeg, and I spent time in the Niagara region hiking on the escarpment.
What king of riding are you into?

In the past alot of road riding and some stupid off road riding (which though I was doing it as a young teen ager on a rigid mountain bike, they now call it Free Riding and use long travel suspension systems?)

This year has started with me spending some time at Firemans park (which is basically on the escarment) doing some easy MTB trails and riding the road on the way there.

I want to join a club and get into road biking but I am having a heck of a time with *should I spend the money...or should I save the money* debates. (a 2500$ bike would really hurt my wallet atm, and anything less then that and you kinda get a crap frame, the good frames start there and go up)

But I'll save that for another post when I get some selections narrowed down.

So I guess you could say I'll ride anything. I've finally got my balance straight on the kona (I always road bikes to small for me because I liked how I could whip them around better) but the kona (20") is a proper fit and it just took a little bit of getting used to. I think I am good now, and getting shoes that fit properly helped to (Just got Specialized Comp MTB shoes *The grey ones with 3 velcro straps*) haven't tried them but they fit like a glove. My diadoras were 1.5sizes to big. Bought them because I got them for 60% off heh.

Hey, I illegally camp at Fireman’s Park, right beside the pond a couple times while hiking on the Bruce Trail.

haha. Ya I thinka lot of people camp there.

Bruce trail is fun, but it ends so often and I have a hard time getting back on it. Maybe its just me, or maybe its just the area.

I also notice alot of it isn't exactly bike friendly (note the set of stairs by firemans on top of what is now the golf course) the stairs are murder with my 27LB hard tail LOL makes me want a CX bike haha.

Riding a bike on the Bruce Trail is a no no, but some parts of the 800 + km. are well suited for riding. If they let Mtb’s on it, it will get ruined and the Progressive Conservatives government has done a good job of that already. At one point, some clown had the idea of making it into a multi-use trail, but the trail association was adamantly against it. The escarpment is an ecological gem with 500-year-old cedar trees, heaps of rare plants and mind-bending rock formations, especially on the Bruce Peninsular section. I have hiked it end to end and the southern part on a few different occasions, that was before I started cycling again. You live in a great area, with plenty of riding opportunities; you may consider getting a touring bike and spend some time exploring all the back roads and small towns.
