General Cycling Discussion - diffirent pumps???

Here is the deal…
I have to put more pressure in to my air suspension fork. I was thinking of using a regular floor tire pump with a gauge, but with special pumps on the market just for forks it made me think if it would work. What’s the difference ?? Can I use a regular tire pump or I have will have to get a special one? My fork is Rock Shox Judy SL.

To get the pressure you may need you will not be able to reach with a tire pump. If you can reach the pressure you have to be careful not to put in to much pressure and blow the seals. These shocks have very low volume requirements. Go to www.rockshox.com and look under tech support.

Shock pumps are long and skinny - like road bike frame pumps. This is to aid in the reaching of the high pressure needed for road bike tires. I would assume that the shock pumps are made this way in order to achieve higher pressures easier. If I remember correctly(my bike doesn't have an air fork), some forks use/used a shraeder valve for adjustment. I don't see why a floor pump wouldn't work for most applications. There are also forks that (I think...) use a needle-type valve to pressurize. You would not be able to use a normal floor pump for this application. Check out the link that Bobatin posted to make sure you aren't putting too much pressure in.

yes, my shock does come with a niddle. o well, I gues I'll have to go to my lbs to fix that problem
