for example, 1km = how many miles?
5 km = "
10 km = "
15 km = "

i need the distances up to 100 km, it doesn't have to be every 5 km like this. 10 km's at a time would be OK as well.

Check this out: conversions (http://http://www.carroll.k12.ia.us/activities/boystrack/1997/resrce97/ConvChart.html/) .

One mile is 1.6 kilometers. There are many more on this site also. You can figure out the rest by multiplying, or go to the site and get 1 through 30 kilometers converted to miles.

EDIT: I can't get the link to work right. I just went to google and type in "km to miles conversion." It came up as the second or third choice.

As a rough guide multiply miles by 1.6.

That means 1 mile is approximately 1.6 km.

Obviously, if you're going the other way, from kilometres to miles, just divide the kilometres by 1.6 to get the miles.

I'll let you do the maths from there.

Divide by 10 then multiply by 6 will get the result near enough. So 40 km = 24 miles.

1 km = 0.6213712 miles
5km = 3.106856 miles
10km = 6.213712 miles
15 km = 9.320568 miles
50km = 31.06856
100km = 62.13712 miles

I've always been able to multiply better than divide. Multiply km by .62 or .6214 to get miles.

10 km = 6.2 miles
100 km = 62.14 miles
etc.

Here's one of many links for conversions ....

http://www.onlineconversion.com/

I always remember a 10k run as being 6.2 miles and just figure out the rest from that info (if I'm not near a computer).

how happy I was to find this thread again! watching the TDF, they don't always do the conversion for us, so I'm constantly trying to figure out the miles left to go....

If you go to http://www.pokluda.cz/download.asp and download the 5th program down it is an excellent converter. It can convert work, pressure, length, weight, density, temperature, speed, angle, and a lot more! I love it!

One kilometer is almost exactly 5/8 mile. SO: miles > km: multiply by 8 then divide by 5. km>miles: multiply by 5 then divide by 8.

Dead easy with practice. I do it all the time when I'm driving in Europe. And I am famously innumerate.
