General Cycling Discussion - POLL: does your SO cycle as much (or more than) you?

Well? How about it? Never thought it would matter, but I sometimes actually think, "Geez, I wish she'd get bitten by the bug, too."

I'm yet to meet my SO. I'd say it's pretty unlikely though.

well, i didn't vote b/c i'm single again - 1 1/2 yr relationship ended in December. my ex cycled a lot less than me - maybe twice a month. i am hoping to find an avid cyclist for my next...

the girl i just met rides as much as i do: she's a MTB guide like me (she's guiding for 4 weeks in may on the Spanish island of Mayorca) and did more races last year than i did, owns more than 1 bike, rides/trains regularly and is competing in the TransAlp Challenge this summer (8 day, 20,000meters of vertical, 500km mountain bike race across the Alps from Germany to Italy) that i decided was a little too extreme (and expensive)... i'll be guiding similar TransAlp tours but as a guide, not as a racer

would be cool if it works out b/c it would be cool to again have a SO who shares the cycling passion - i had 2 exes who cycled as much as me and it was awesome!

Wife seems to have no interest in ever riding...

My wife is a new cyclist and we ride together 3 or 4 times a week. I ride about twice as much per week as she does. I currently bring my bike to work and ride at lunch.

I'm lucky in that my wife likes riding. She cycles out to meet me when I'm commuting home . We tour too, and cycle in to Edinburgh for brunch at the weekends.

I'm single, but my fantasy girl cycles as much as I do!

I got my GF, now wife into cycling and we we riding about the same amount. I was riding a bit more, but not much more. We rode mostly together.

Then, she got bitten hard-core and was riding 3 times more than me. 3-4 times a week, and spinning on the trainer on off days.

Then she got sick (diagnosed w/Graves disease) and been laid up for close to a year now, so I'm riding more.

I'm guessing (and I know her), when she's healthy again, she'll outpace me 2:1.

That's cool!!

I taught my GF how to ride a couple of months ago and even though I commute with my bike, we always take a pleasure ride along the Bay Trail or elsewhere a couple of times a week.

Since my wife perceives on-road cycling as dangerous, I ride far more than she does. She does occasionally borrow my mountain bike for trail or path riding.

My wife and kids never ride.:(

We ride about the same amount, although he rides a bit more than I do, because sometimes he goes out for really early morning rides with his friends and they do sprints and all that. I can't sprint. Also, he likes the colder weather more than I do. But we're about even.

My wife can't cycle, so yes, I ride more. I tried to interest her into wheelchair cycling, but I would probably have to be able to borrow one so she could try.

Both kids like cycling, but they are only 6.5 and 3. I suspect the oldest daughter will be less of a cycling than the younger one, however.

If you're asking me, my "little" kids are 18 and 21.

I'm lucky, my wife rides about as much as I do and is
a good motivator if I'm feeling reticent about riding.
One thing I really appreciate is that when we do
organized rides like HHH she doesn't get all upset
if we get seperated (I do ride a bit faster, but not
all that much any more).
as I've said before, I'm a lucky man.

My husband introduced me to cycling when we got married 12 1/2 years ago. He has always been an avid cyclist - road, track and mountain bike, and rode competively in his youth. So naturally he hoped I would share his interest. If someone had told me 14 years ago that I would be having this much fun on a bike, I know I wouldn't have believed them. Now, it is a very rare occasion when we don't go out together and we both plan to start cycling to work together within the next few weeks.

I love riding with him because it forces me to constantly push myself to be a better rider - faster and more skillful. My goal is to one day kick his butt up one of our favorite climbs! Every season I can feel myself closing the gap a little bit more!

He is the best riding partner I could ever ask for. :)

Probably a little less, since it's been winter over here, but my riding is going up substantially too. It's my plan to get in at least 30 miles a day over the summer.

I also run an hour every morning and lift 4 mornings a week. I'm sure that cuts into my riding time. Oh well.

WIFE RIDES VERY LITTLE. BUT SHE IS PRETTY GOOD ON THE BIKE WHEN SHE DOES GET ON IT. SHE WORKS OUT ON HER OWN.

Thankfully my husband and I are equally addicted to both riding and the bike forum.

My wifes commute is somewhat longer than mine and she likes to ride a bit more distance than I like to. She usually gets a couple thousand miles more a year than I.

SO = significant other

Wish I could get him enthused...but he's pretty much had it after 10-15 miles. His bum is tender! ;) Can't take the saddle very long!
