You can buy yourself a spot or pray for a lottery spot if you try for one...

Me - I'm only going by doing the hard yards and racing. Last attempt I missed out on a spot by just over 3 minutes, so it's only a matter of time!

Oh man, so close. Where in Oz are you? They changed the course for IM Aus in 2006 didn't they? Was it any better? I heard a lot of people didn't like the old one. I'm thinking about NZ 2008 but not sure if I will be able to swing it.

I'm in Melbourne. Raced Forster (old Oz course) in 2000 and then NZ March 2003 where I was so close!

IM OZ did move to Port Maquarrie last year. Similar coarse road surface, but without the monster potholes which was the bane of the Forster course! From all reports it seems to be a good move, though the old course did hold a lot of sentimental connection for many people and caused dismay when the move was first suggested regardless of Forster's shortcomings as a venue.

NZ is a great location for a race and definitely recommended if you can get there in 2008! Cristal clear lake(and cold - definitely no chance of a no wetsuit swim), coarse but good road surface and undulating out and back two lap run along the lake shore... Last year though given the gale force winds and race cut down to a shorter ride and run.

Me, happy to go sub 10 there so was a consolation prize for being so close (previous year my age group rolled down to 10:15 at NZ so was certain to have done it but didn't roll down even one spot!).

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to get back on the IM start line since, instead chose to race duathlons for the next season and raced the World Duathlon Championships as they were in Australia September 2005. Now just dealing with a few injuries which have plagued me the last year hoping to maybe have another shot at IM probably 2008 again in a hope to make the big dance. Just unsure of where to try and qualify...
