I wonder what Ullrich was thinking when this happened?

What do you mean Joe? Ullrich was 1:59 behind.
Lance was having a brewsky when Jan crossed the finish line. :D

Go Lance!

Awesome stuff, folks! Does anyone know what gear Lance was using? It looked much smaller than Ullrich's. Why weren't more cyclist using this "granny" gear? It worked so great for Lance.

Drinking a couple beers for Lance and thanking God for OLN.

I heard a 12-23 cassette (still pretty tall gears for that kind of climbing, at least for us mere mortals.) During his break on L'Alpe, he was using his lowest 2 gears.

Ullrich was praying: Mein Gott, please make Lance get a flat tire. I'll promise to not drink so much beer, and I'll even go to confession more. :D

Thanks for the image... this is the first time I've seen it. "The look" has generated more talk than anything else in the TdF.

So what do y'all think? What was it for? Was it the evil eye? Was he ridiculing Jan... "nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah"? Maybe a pause and an invitation for a battle of the titans, "C'mon Jan, let's dust off the riff-raff and settle this between ourselves." I guess we'll never know.
