Mountain Biking - Hi there, this is my first post:)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As i said in sub, I'm new to this so id like to say hi all! for starters.
Since im into mtb theres no better place then here to post my first post (yea, consider that suckin up, lol) :D
I got an ancient trek 830... well right now all thats left of it is frame, the rest i replaced, got some XT, some SRAM 9.0, some ritchey and cannondale components and RST fork. Looks funny on that frame too, I know :p . Still on the lookout for the frame, dreaming of Giant NRS XtC team.. tight budget ya know, heh. anyways, so much as far as the introduction goes.
I got a question too, I hope someone will help me out on this one. What do you think about deore discs? M525 to be more precise. I was considering Hayes mechanical or avid, but now I hear all mechanical disc brakes are a lot of crap and not worth buing at all. cant afford XTR, XT is to heavy (my bike is heavy enough as it is, besides i dont do DH so i dont need 4 pistons)
I cant find any test of that deore M525 on the net, none of the people i talked to can tell me something about it, so I dont know if its worth considering or not.

Stay away from the 525's I'd get a set of the Avid Mechanicals personally, or save for a set of Hayes hydraulics. The Shimano 525's aren't worth it in my opinion. As for the mechanical brakes being crap they are unless you buy the Avid's - the only mechanicals that even come colse to hydros in terms of stopping power. Don't believe me? Go to www.mtbr.com and look through the reviews for yourself. Welcome to the Forums

the deore Hydros are definately nice. On a price vs performance ratio they do very well. They stop like hydraulic brakes should(very good thing) and dont cost an arm and a leg. Good buy if you ask me

go for avid mechs, they compare to many hydro discs.

Ok, thnx for ur replies, :) i think i owe u some explanation why i said mechanicals are crap. I looked at some tests of hayes mech, talked to some people that were using them or deore mechanicals and every time the same thing turned up - they might be nice straight from the box as far as power and modulation, but once u get them dirty, and ride over 1 000 km in terrain, they lose it all. first, mud goes into all places causing them to sease up or work really hard, the power is gone, and they generally require more attention to keep them more or less in working condition. And Raiyn, as u suggested i went over to that page u gave link to, but i also looked at reviews for deore hydro, and they were pretty good (4.15 out of 5). It might be that noone really says they bought piece of crap stuff, so they justify it however thay can. I mean i still got my doubts as far as m525s go, i have a test of 555s in front of me and its not as good as of hayes mech, (thou close) but then its been made on straight out of box sets. and ill be using that brake for a long time.
Anyways thanks again for ur posts, i still would like to hear more about what u think about those m525, if anyone of you got them on your bike.
There's a reason I run Avid Mechanicals on both of my mountain bikes.
I think hydrolic is overkill and just extra crap to mess with unless you're downhilling/freeriding.

As an EX owner of hayes mechs I promise you they are th biggest pieces of crap this side of the world. No power, lots of fade...no power...they suck. I tore them down rebuilt them tried every trick in the book and power wouldn't stay. I will tell every human being that intends to do aggressive riding to go buy v's before these...
That said...avids are in a category by themselves and rank up there with hydros. They shouldn't even be called mechs they are that much better.
